Forums - Sales - What/Who can defeat Wii? GTA IV sales & more Wii???????

They were creating more console, so they should sell more.... in the meanwhile. - This is for both Sony & Microsoft, Sony have continuously low sales with no big hit like Halo 3, Sony should have more console in production

They have lower user base, it means that they have more opportunity to be purchased... they should sell more.. - This is mainly for Sony.

For "Game Party", I am criticizing(satire) how a bad game can easily sell on Wii with a name and quality game don't sell.

For DS, I want to show you that it is not just party game and all of them got high review score, not like "Game Party"

Again.

We should look at the overall market, not just being a defense force, and think about what should they(S & M) do on regaining the market. Nintendo did reversed the market and expanded it, this is the fact you can't denied. Just look at the percentage of Wii, is already 45%

how does having "lower userbase" translate to "more opportunity to purchase???? Look at year 3,4,5 for PS2 and compare that to xbox and GC, you will see that NO, lower userbase doesn't translate AT ALL to "more opportunity to purchase", in fact, it translated to "dying system that nobody wants"

Frankly, I'm happy with the way Sony is going (I'm not a xbox owner, can't speak for them) As long as I get games I like in the system I own, I'm perfectly happy to let whatever they want "Game Party" or not, come out in another system I don't own

Lol, "PS3 = dying system that nobody wants", Thatz your conclusion, thatz nice.

For pessimistic fanboy talk, thatz nice.

For thatz your intelligence and couldn't understand how to turn lower user base in business, thatz nice.

For only bashing other console, not on how to improve the console, thatz nice.

WOW...Wow...wow...thatz NICE!

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

Wii's hardware sales as if it's some kind of consumer buying trend? I remember last week it was at 69K in NA and behind BOTH PS3 and 360, I don't remember anybody saying it was doomed? Wii will sell, at that price-point, almost as many as they can ship. The fact Nintendo shipped that many is no coincident. They wanted to push Mario Kart Wii, sell hardware AND kill off hypes of GTAIV.

So far.. they are only 1/3.

Mario Kart got WHIPPED by both GTAIV versions. (lost)
Wii sold as many as they can ship (won)
GTAIV hype is bigger than ever (lost)

Next week, you will probably see Wii back to their bi-monthly low, while PS360 will be around over 100K again.

Disagree with you completely on these two "losses".

Mario Kart could hardly be said to have been whipped by GTAIV. In the week GTAIV got released Mario Kart sold 1.2million in the US. In any week that is an incredible amount of sales. In GTAIV week that it an outstanding result. It even almost outsold GTAIV PS3 and this is the biggest game PS3 will ever see (until GTAV but that will be so late in the console war as to be irrelevant). Bear in mind that Mario Kart Wii will have amazing legs (MK DS is still coming up in top ten 2 years after release). Nintendo never intended or expected that Mario Kart should outsell either version of GTAIV in week of release. They just wanted to show they could get huge sales on one of their big games even with the huge hype that it GTAIV. (Huge Win)

Nintendo also never intended or expected to take away GTAIV hype. That is just impossible. Remember 360 outsold Wii in US the month Halo 3 was released and Nintendo still considered it a victory for them. They released Mario Kart and shipped huge amounts of Wiis last week to show that even with the biggest HD game ever it could still outsell its competition in the Americas and no amount of HD hype could take away hype from Wii. Not only did it outsell them it even outsold them combined. (Absolutely resounding, massive Win)

Mario Kart series to Nintendo is what GTA series to Sony. Yes, Mario Kart at 1.2 is GREAT, but Nintendo chose the week of GTAIV to go on a direct competition with them, and in that aspect, it failed miserably.

Also, coming third to PS3 with only 4 million + installbase. and attachment of 28% in first week. THAT is huge. Something Mario Kart's 10% attachment ratio couldn't match.

Sure, you can twist it any way you want and still call it victory. But the truth is. Nintendo wanted to go against the best of the best by pushing Mario Kart out on the same week, that did not payoff. They are MUCH better off releasing the game 2 weeks from now and get all the hype they want in the media. All I'm hearing right now on the news is "GTAIV this, GTAIV that"... and somewhere in there "Wiifit"

What on earth are you talking about saying that did not pay off? Mario Kart Wii sold 1.2million. That is huge. Nintendo did not expect to outsell GTAIV first week. They just didn't want all the sales this week to go to GTAIV. But now it is very clear that Mario Kart Wii is going to outsell the biggest game PS3 is ever going to have. That is a huge result for Nintendo when you consider the last GTA game on a Playstation console sold over 15 million.

You also suggest Mario Kart should have been released two weeks from now. That would put it too close to Wii Fit. Also bear in mind the GTAIV hype won't last forever. However, for years to come we are going to be talking about Mario Kart Wii. That Mario Kart did not get huge hype in week of release is irrelevant as it will sell till Nintendo stops producing Wiis. Same goes for Smash Bros.

Bringing in attach ratios is irrelevant. In analysing what is and what is not a victory for Nintendo you can hardly punish them by the fact that they are selling so many Wiis and Sony so few PS3s that PS3 is competing with Wii Play for which will sell more when before the start of the generation everyone expected PS3 to blow Wii sales away. If at the end of this generation GTAIV sells to 50% of PS3 owners and Mario Kart to only 10% of Wii owners but Mario Kart still sells more are you going to suggest that is victory for PS3 over Wii.

You say "you can twist it any way you want and still call it victory". Actually I'm finding it very hard to find a way to twist it to call it anything other than a resounding victory. Only the biggest Wii hater and or PS3/360 fan could find a way to look at Wii selling more than 360 and PS3 combined in the week the biggest HD game is released, Mario Kart selling 1.2 million that week and consider this as anything but victory for Nintendo.

 Right back at ya.. Only the BIGGEST Wii fanboy can claim close to 4 million first week sales of GTAIV as somewhat a failure.

Nobody is claiming 1.2 million isn't good for Wii, but to dismiss what GTAIV did is just wrong.

What are you on about? Who said anything about GTAIV's sales being a failure?  You were the one who said Nintendo had two losses:

Mario Kart got WHIPPED by both GTAIV versions. (lost)
GTAIV hype is bigger than ever (lost)

I was pointing out to you how Nintendo has not suffered a loss in either of those situations whatsoever.  I never said anything about GTAIV's sales being a failure.  What I will say is that it is obviously not going to be the Saviour Wii haters hoped it would be irrespective of how many copies of the game are sold.

Actually Take 2 should care, Nintendo shot an arrow across it's yard and basically told them: "If you don't support us, we're going to crash your party". This was all about Take 2 and not so much about Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo wanted a GTA game on it's console, Take 2 didn't build one so Nintendo tried to take the oomph out of their sales. Mario Kart and Wii Fit will affect GTA's legs. GTA4 may have had a really good opening week but it's guaranteed now that GTA won't get the free press it would have gotten if the game helped Sony and Microsoft trounce all over the Wii.

Nintendo is a company which cares about money. It knows that to get more money it needs games like GTA on it's system (Licence fee's). This should be a warning to any third party company who doesn't follow in line behind the Wii. Nintendo doesn't give a damn about you, they will do whatever they can to ruin your games launch and any free press you might get from it by positioning their own games around your games launch.

This move will end up leaving Take 2 open for takeover, which will help EA. As we know EA is all about getting it's games out on as many consoles as it can. Nintendo knows this as well. The takeover is going to happen now, Take 2's value will dip below EA's asking price soon and it will be ripe for the picking.

 I was out and about on Sunday, Wii shipments came in again in my area (Greater Toronto Area). I saw for the first time since last April a Wii on a shelf.  People were lined up waiting to get theirs.  So we should expect decent sales this week as well.  It looks like Nintendo has upped North America's shipments.

I will probably get flamed for this, but here it goes anyway....

Nothing can stop the Wii, as the Wii has no competition. As soon as someone makes a console that targets the same userbase, then we can talk winers and losers.

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

@Taxman: Think about it.... You think it won't happen? HA!

I don't know, if Halo 3 was the record holder of biggest entertainment sales on earth(previous one was Spider-Man), GTA IV(3,703,806) is the record holder now,Halo 3(2,844,837), why should T2 care? T2 is the biggest on earth now. Since they can co-exist(look at the sales of MK Wii) & they are in different market and T2 got its own portion on it (Carnival Game), Wii Fit won't affect GTA IV sales, soccer moms aren't buying GTA IV now, they won't buy it after.

 Take 2 has no other big games coming out.  Microsoft has other divisions which boost it's share price.  Take 2's share price has no where to go but DOWN.  It peaked when news hit that it would hurt Wii sales, it's been dropping since.  Take 2's stock will be under 20$ in a few weeks/months again.  Making it a prime candidate to be taken over.  It doesn't matter how big a release was for a company if they can't consistently beat the street.  Take 2 will not be able to sustain it's growth and so the stock will suffer.

What Take 2 needs is a rosy future painted for it by the news.  It keeps people interested in the company.
