Sony invented Blu-Ray format. PS3 provides brilliant gaming experience with Blu-Ray player, full 1080p HD resolution in games, multimedia, online gaming and internet all combined in the most technologically advanced gaming console.

Nintendo invented Wii remote motion control. Nintendo Wii provides a fun, interactive gaming experience with 3D motion control interfaced with every Wii game providing a unique and fun gaming experience.

Discuss this topic people both Sony and Nintendo are innovators of this console generation.

BTW: Apologies if it is a very simplistic approach, I know I have left a lot of information out.

1080p is used in so few games that it can hardly be stated as something the PS3 provides, which means that the PS3 supports the same 1080i and 720p resolutions that the XBox provided in the last generation; and Blu-Ray is a storage format which is similar to DVD that has yet to show any real benefit over DVD.

The Wiimote is an entirely different way of interacting with videogames, and has improved games in general and will (likely) be the parent of a new standard.

The PS3 is still a very young console with a pretty different architecture compared to other gaming solutions, which has just celebrated its first birthday here in Europe little over a month ago, developers have learned a lot about its design and legacy game engines are being redesigned, other new game engines are being built up from scracth for the platform.

Some of the technologically most impressive fast 60 FPS PS3 games like Super Stardust HD and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue already render in much higher 1080p resolutions. You should really check out Super Stardust HD with its over 20,000 fast moving and colliding physics objects as well as up to a hundred thousand particle effects on screen simultaneously, and they will get around 50% more graphics performance out of their next game as well as there's still a lot of room for SPU optimisation and utilization.

Rome wasn't built in a day. You will be surprised how much PS3 gaming is going to advance in the next couple of years. Similar leaps in technological advancements you won't see on the 360.

Even a launch game like Kameo already tapped 83% of Xenon's potential. Only through extensive optimisations the 360 can be pushed quite a bit further.

All fanboyism set aside, I don't see how anyone could ever put something as mundane as using a slightly bigger disc on the same page as completely rebuilding the traditional controller we've been using for the better part of our lives.

On top of that, Blu-ray hasn't really added anything to gaming yet. 50GB discs sound nice, but ultimately they can't do anything that can't be done with several DVDs, and high profile exclusives like Heavenly Sword and Uncharted still clock well under 10 hours.

This, lol, I'm not saying that Sony didn't put nothing new in the PS3, but the Wii-mote by itself has more impact in the game community than the Bluray or the Cell, or both toghether...

. Something about how the Wii is the only one that offers an experience you can't have on the PC, and how the high development costs of HD graphics are a giant stab in the face for innovative low budget games.

I'd say it's the other way around. How the succes of innovative low-budget games is a giant stab in the face for graphical powerhouses with multi-million dollars of development-cost.

OT, don't forget, there are different levels of innovation:

I do still rate the PS3 on a modular level (new component type, new storage type but doesn't alter the way we think about the product itself)

And the Wii definatly in architectural. I base this on the assumption that we already have seen the components within the Wii, including motion tracking. But it ranks high on how we now percieve the console as a product. The consumer now not only sees it to play games, but also to socialize or to get fit.

The only thing the 360 innovated was the RRoD. Due to the **** hardware!

I think that's more like a personal preference, my girlfriend and kid sister get cramps from the 360 controller. I prefer the dual sticks next to each other, couldn't be in the top 100 of SSHD's highscores with a 360 controller.

IMO Microsoft has never really innovated much for a company its size with so many resources. Mostly buying other companies when they come up with some cool ideas or try to mimic good ideas. They try to become on par and use their market might to get into a position they become dominant and marginalize the less resourceful competition and when competition is out of the picture advancements stall and only advance when it's needed to sustain their dominance.

this is a joke, right? psx gave us cd, ps2 gave us dvd and ps3 gave us bd. so where's that innovation? i can predict that in the next generation ps3 will use multilayer BDs or they will make some new format with bigger storage capabilities.

if we're talking about multimedia capabilities xbox can do much more than ps3 and higher resolution doesn't mean next generation at all. right now the only innovative console is wii.

What fantastic multimedia capabilities are these? You can buy movies on the xbox live store if you live in america, but on ps3 you can browse the internet and install linux if you really must do everything a pc can do. So how does the xbox have an advantage?

Yes

to bad ps3 dosnt have any games that use the full disk AND look great
