I don't consider Blu-Ray a gaming innovation. It's a storage medium, nothing more.

All fanboyism set aside, I don't see how anyone could ever put something as mundane as using a slightly bigger disc on the same page as completely rebuilding the traditional controller we've been using for the better part of our lives.

On top of that, Blu-ray hasn't really added anything to gaming yet. 50GB discs sound nice, but ultimately they can't do anything that can't be done with several DVDs, and high profile exclusives like Heavenly Sword and Uncharted still clock well under 10 hours.

So would this topic be Microsoft and Nintendo, the gaming innovators of this generation, if the HD war had gone the other way?

lol bluray v hddvd same principle different tech. One format failed on prevailed.

Therefore I don't see blu ray as inivative.

Hence the only real one left is the Wii. However so far still waiting for the perfect fps experience with wii mote.

this is a joke, right? psx gave us cd, ps2 gave us dvd and ps3 gave us bd. so where's that innovation? i can predict that in the next generation ps3 will use multilayer BDs or they will make some new format with bigger storage capabilities.

if we're talking about multimedia capabilities xbox can do much more than ps3 and higher resolution doesn't mean next generation at all. right now the only innovative console is wii.

Dude you're smoking crack! The PS3 is probably the least innovative and slightly behind the Xbox360 at that. Xbox360 added achievements, thats enough for me to put it above the PS3 - which innovated precisely nothing. PS3 added... What? It doesnt even do full HD and so far it renders at the same or a lower resolution than the Xbox360. Some innovation you got there. Maybe you're thinking about the creativity of its fanboys?

Sony innovated Blu-Ray in the PS3 bringing the best graphics in video games in full 1080p true high resolution. Excellent Cell technology used in PS3 producing the best graphics that look real.

Technology wise I think the PS3 is most innovative console due to Cell, general hardware lay-out and Blu-Ray, which IMO gives the PS3 a really crucial advantage for the long run. People should really keep an eye out for Motorstorm 2 and Resistance 2 and compare them to their prequels (the most impressive PS3 launch games) to see how well gaming technology on the PS3 will mature.

I agree Nintendo made an excellent choice with the Wii-mote controller, but the hardware specs... For the kind of market they are targetting IMO it's good enough and they now generate insane profits.
