Yeah. I'd have to look at the actual proposal. Sounds wierd. Of course with Hilary Clinton saying she doesn't trust economists it doesn't surprise me that much.
The Oil Companies are doing a lot of profiteering but if you want the stop them you have to close the loopholes, not just have some weird free floating body.
I assume they realize though that by closing said loopholes they'd reduce the gas company's insentive to stock up on gas ahead of time leading the country to an increased chance of a shortage.
Really they'd need to find a way to get around the price gouging that's done after. The fact that gas prices never drop down to the level they were at before the event that raised them up, even when said event is over.
However to do that they would likely need to set a hard cap on how much a company could charge for gas per barrel of oil. Which would be some hard legistlation to get passed to say the least.

The problem is they are targeting Shell and Shell is actually working on alternative fuels. They invented snake-well drilling, why are we targeting one of the few non-middle eastern oil companies that is actually helping and trying to develop things to help the people of the world?
Democrats in congress = jack asses

Im an economic major and this is a stupid idea. But with gas prices it would be smart just to attack the oil companies and thats it.

They're probably targetting Shell because Shell has been accused of price gouging in numerous cases in the past... as well as price fixing.
Shell as a whole is a pretty shady company.

I walk the line of being a libertarian. Look at who is running congress right now, 80% of congress are Democrats. So as of this moment yes congress = jack asses due to the party running it.
Honestly we need to get rid of the horrid party system so that we can vote for individuals versus entire groups. The system is bs.
