Forums - Gaming - Could a developer from one region make a rpg has qualities of another?

To be fair, Evermore was made by Square (USA), and much of the game was dictated by Square Japan.

Septerra Core was/is a decent example of a WRPG with JRPG like qualities. Smaller world, linear gameplay, ect.

OMG.  Someone else who has played Septerra Core.  ^_^

Anyway, this thread is like a sea of foolishness.  WRPG is a monicker given to RPGs made by western developers.  No more, no less.  If a lot of the past WRPGs have been similar it's because most of them have been made by the same people (Black Isle, Bioware, Troika...etc) and many of those older WRPGs used the Infinity Engine which made things even more similar.  As times and tools change, this is bound to change as well.  As more western developers start jumping into the RPG genre, I'm sure each of them will bring their own style to the table.

Wasn't Eternal Sonata made by a US developer?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

 True.

In answer to OP: Definitely a yes, it's been happening for years now, Final Fantasy is influenced by alot of WRPG's (which were really popular at the time) when it first began.

I'd say Kingdom Hearts is pretty close to meshing both WRPG and JRPG worlds completely, if only because it took one of the biggest companies in Japanese entertainment and one of the Biggest companies in Western Entertainment and meshed it into one experience.

Yeah, offcourse that's possible. You just have to add the J-ingredients from a J-RPG to create it. Basically, if the company has the knowledge, I don't see why it shouldn't be possible.

If that's the case then there is no need for Jrpg, and Wrpg to describe a certain type of rpg like most people do.

Western developers just need realize that a linear story in an RPG =/=bad thing

Well technically, the stories in Mass Effect and KoTor, other than the different endings and diolauge choices, are actually pretty linear

I have the feeling that maybe 2 people in this whole thread know what the difference between a "non-linear" RPG and a "linear" RPG is.

Who can name a "non-linear" RPG? Preferable a WRPG.  Also please explain why you think it's "non-linear."

This could be fun.

Fallout? It has many variables of endings, and your stats and choices completely change the gameplay. Granted I'm basing this off the words of others.

Can americans or europeans make great anime's and manga's? Is just a question like that. Of course they can draw it, but story-wise, action-wise, scene-wise, humor-wise and music-wise they are formed differently than the japanese artists..

''Hadouken!''

for example the Suikoden-series; that series wouldn't be create like it is by non-japanese, there are so many particular japanese aspects in Suikoden, that can only come out of the minds of japanese formed artists, they don't need to be ethnicly japanese, but they most be from like you would say in art, from the 'Japanese school'..
