Sorry, I usually think in single platforms.

But I think it works both ways, because, like alpha_dk pointed out (as I would have if he had not beaten me to it), SSB:B outsold the 360 and PS3 software totals combined during its first week, but I don't think anyone would have said that was a major victory (unless they're total Wii fanboys of course).

Lets see how far back the Wii falls next week though when they have fewer then normal consoles out for sale at retailers. Can we say less then 60k wiis sold in NA for next week? It's expensive to ship 400k wii's for the MKWii / attempt to distract from GTA4 sales week. Although, all the news channels have been talking about the past couple of weeks is GTA4 and nothing about Wii or MKWii.

Wii didn't so much kill this week, as much as GTAIV not being able to move enough hardware to match the number of wiis on the shelf

 i know what happend GTA in general is considered morally wrong by some people including me so instead of buyng it i went out and bought mariokart wii instead two days before hand. i think what also happend was word of mouth. that has a bigger effect then ads on tv, and tons of news channels talkin bout it. word of  mouth is almost a guarantee win in all catagories. and it looks like there was  more mariokarts sold then wii's in america this past week and i do believe we will see steady sales of mariokart fo rweeks to come till wiifit comes out. which btw i showed my wife yesterday in a walmart ad and she was like wow we gotta get that. 

That is simply amazing that the news sources you (a self-professed "hardcore gamer", PS3 fan, and a person with a firm dislike of the Wii) listen to are reporting GTA news and not Wii news.

Wow. I wasn't expecting this week to be so...extreme.

I must have gotten caught up in the hype, because I was expecting more HD consoles to be moved. Since they weren't, the Wii's astronamical numbers seem that much more of a blow. Basically it annihilated the competition in hardware sales, and Mario Kart Wii held its own against two versions of GTA IV despite what the detractors have to say.

Dang, it looks like Carnival Games (made by Take Two) won't outsell either GTA IV versions (made by R, owned by Take Two)

Everybody is overlooking the horrible truth - if EA gets Take Two, they will also get the carnival games series!

Too bad for TWEWY, it had a 66% dropoff rate.

As I'm telling about the stuff that people won't really look at by themselves, Call of Duty 4 (360) actually outsold SMG yet again this week. SMG got a very very small boost only from the massive sales.

Mario Kart Wii passes 3M and is sitting at 3.2M without Europe and Japan numbers for this week.

Iron Man across all consoles sold very well. 72K X360, 40K Ps2, 35K Ps3 and 24K Wii.

That might appear totally uninteresting, but most have thought that Wii had the perfect movie cash-in demographic, but for this, and some others, this isn't the case. Any ideas why?

Imagine: Fashion Designer (DS) has sold for 27 weeks, but did this week see its by far biggest week in NA, more than 25% ahead of the next one. Toghether with this one, many "girl" games sold much more than usual. This leads to the case that big "core"(not hardcore) releases also makes the family buy an extra game, for either the family or the daughter. This leads to the thought that there is a heavier % of families (teens) than most people seem to think.

Overall, pretty slow week in NA.
