Wow, Neogaf is... terrible.

Sorry, but I hadn't noticed before how terrible that forum is. *shivers*.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to some in-game footage.

Are you excited about this Soriku?

I mean, were you excited about Monster Hunter on PS2 or Monster Hunter Freedom on PSP? If not, you probably shouldn't be too excited about this.

Just a heads-up. It'll probably be more of the same. Which is a good thing, if you liked the other titles.

I've never heard about MH much before MH3 was announced. I heard about the PSP ones before though. PS2 ones didn't know about 'til MH3. I've never played a MH before, but I've seen vids and such, and it looks like a good game :3 Plus a lot of people like it...why not get hyped? >_>

But Monster Hunter is not a "good game" in the manner a Final Fantasy or a Metal Gear game is. The don't have wide appeal, the are quite niche games. The Japanese may love it, but you may as well hate the shit out of it.

I really loved the PSP incarnations and am really looking forward to this ( one of my favorite series to my favorite console ever ). You should try a PSP or PS2 previous installment before getting all worked up, my friend...

Dmeister, what kind of game is it? It's RPG, right? Not a lot of sites have any info about it, and most sites are horrid anyway, but you seem fairly credible, so it would be nice if you wrote some info.

Definitely not an RPG...

You tell me.

That makes him even less credible if you ask me.

Are you sure? I never played on but it seems to have all RPG elements to make it at least similar to an RPG...

Wikipeida says it's "hack-and-slash, adventure, and strategy" which pretty much sums it up.

Basically, there is no leveling system, aside from your Hunter Rank.  Your Hunter rank goes up after you compete a set of quests, which consist of gathering quests (finding a certain amount of an item), Slaying quests (killing a certain number of weak monsters) and Hunting quests (Killing a certain monster, usually, very strong, thus where the strategy comes in).  Defeating the big monsters is a huge undertaking.  You must plan for it immensely.  If it's a hot environment, bring cold drinks so that your health doesn't deplete, and vice versa.  Bring Sonic bombs if it's an underground creature, so that the sound can make it come to the surface so that you can attack it.  Bringing traps, so that you can trap it to capture it, or take a few swipes without it killing you.  Then you choose what weapon to use, longswords, greatswords, guns, bowguns, dual swords, hunting horns, gun lances, and a few I can't remember.  There's an immense layer of strategy that goes into even the simplest missions, since you never know which mosnters that you will encounter.

It's a VERY niche game.  But if you like it, it's awesome.

That's the shortest way that I can sum-up Monster Hunter, but I've cut a lot of corners, and over-simplified everything, which MH doesn't do.

Just saying, don't get your hopes up for this game.

Lots of Japanese people buy it, not Americans. It's a very different taste for American games/gamers. Lots of people don't like it too much in America.

But if you like it, more power to you, it's a great game.

Yeah, but I'm not a typical American. In fact, I HATE American games. I don't care much for CoD, or GH, or any other Western games. I might care about Bioware games though (Sonic RPG, but that's based off a Japanese game LOL. You get my point.). There is another Western company I MIGHT like - Bionic Games, just opened up. But beyond that, I DO NOT CARE ABOUT WESTERN GAMES. Prettty much all the games I buy are Japanese or have something to do with Japan. Really, a lot of what Japan likes I like so it should appeal to me.

@rout

Erm...who said a game has to have wide appeal to appeal to me? I'll probably like it because it seems like a type of game I'd like.

And I'm sure MH is an RPG. An action RPG. It doesn't have to be like FF or Tales of to be an RPG lol. If it's not an RPG (which it really is) then I guess it's an action adventure with heavy RPG elements...

Read my above post.

You couldn't be more wrong.

For the past 3 months, I've had Monster HUNTER confused with Monster RANCHER. My brother pointed it out and I was like.....OOOOOOO! hehe.

Sounds RPG-ish to me. Would you consider Zelda "definitely not an RPG"?
