Forums - Gaming - MTV, Harmonix Announce Rock Band Track Pack For PS2, Wii

This sounds better than nothing. I think I'll probably stick to owning my Wii then instead of going out and Buying a PS3 or Xbox.

As for the logistics, I believe that you will have to do some kind of disc swapping deal; though it wouldn't suprise me if it was its own self-loading game in itself.

Otherwise, it would be too easy to pirate :-p

Eh, it shows an effort which is nice. RBII will definitely come fully equipped at least, and will hopefully launch alongside its brethren.

My Games of 2011:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Super Mario 3D Land

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

It's probably a self-booting disc that won't boot unless you've got a savegame on the system already.

There is no reason why these can't be DLC on the Wii but at least this is an acceptable substitute for Nintendo's retardation when it comes to DLC and online systems.

That's easily my biggest complaint with the system.

I disagree with you.

You place the blame for lack of DLC on Nintendo when the true fault lies with the publishers. They could easily release DLC for Rock Band Wii. 5 or 6 songs could fit on the HD if I'm not mistaken.

What this would do is:

A. Cause Nintendo to take serious notice of the storage problem.

B. Earn revenue for Nintendo and the publishers of Rock Band.

Instead, what obviously happened is the developers weren't sure about the validity of DLC on the Wii due to several factors:

1. Thought they would be blamed for the storage problems by releasing large DLC.

2. DLC is not a prove money maker on the Wii.

3. Rock Band has already, for lack of a better term, "blown its load." It's likely to sell poorly on the Wii due to the late released and inferior quality.

4. It would require no extra development to port from PS2 to Wii, if you leave out the online mode.

I think the main argument against this being Nintedo's fault is this:

The game is a direct port of the PS2 version. Even with DLC, it would still be the inferior version of Rock Band in almost every way. DLC is just the major issue that has risen out of the number of smaller issues. Harmonix has sucessfully diverted attention towards Nintendo as blame for Wii's Rock Band sucking, while at least most, if not all of the blame lies directly with whoever calculated their risk/cost/benefit analysis.

When you look at it that way, it's hard to call Nintendo retarded because of Rock Band, and frankly, the decision to trim costs by reducing internal storage to a minimum turned out to be a pretty successful business decision, if not a practical one, I think you'll agree.

These publishers can't just put DLC on the Wii by themselves. Nintendo would have to set up some kind of system that allows it to happen. The publishers also need permission from Nintendo to add content to the console.

Besides, there shouldn't be a storage problem on the Wii. If Nintendo would just un-gimp the add-in memory and what it is allowed to do, this wouldn't be an issue.

I'm sorry but this entire situation is squarely in Nintendo's lap.

Exactly Rock Pig. DLC for a disc game will not be released in 2008 for the Wii. I'm saying this knowing Nintendo will announce a memory unit at e3.

"Hopefully, competition from GH4 will make Harmonix actually put some effort into DLC for the Wii."

What are you talking about competition from GH4? A game without DLC will force Harmonix to put effort in DLC?

"Why isn't samus in a mario kart game?"

... i still find it hard to believe Nintendo hasn't / won't release a Wii with more than the 512mb of flash memory ...

Or atleast they could enable the add-in memory slot ... its basically useless now ...

ohhwell atleast PS2 owners get something thanks to Nintendo ( im not sure harmonix would of bothered to do this for just 1 system .... )

More dics. More trash. More pollution. Get a hard drive Ninty...

Wii Code: 4819-7684-2396-4558

More dics? Not a good thing in my book!

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

Damn. At first glance even though this is technically better than nothing at all I should be pissed and refuse to buy it till Nintendo stops acting like an idiot and revamp their online system.

But there's 5 songs on there that I know I want to play badly and like Zen there have been several songs in each of the GH games (fewest in the 80s disc though) that I either hadn't heard of before or didn't think I would like and ended up loving so i'll more than likely end up grabbing this.

C'mon Harmonix don't make me keep second-guessing whether I should give you my money, just add classic controller support to the guitar portion so my Les Paul works and you've got it.
