Forums - Nintendo - The Conduit... graphics only good in some ways?

Yea but it's just a torn apart version from what they explained, it's just portions of the engine.

But depending on what those parts are the difference visually can be amazing, if possible.

 Who are you replying too? Me?

I honest to god have no idea why this engine is being praised so highly. Metroid prime looks so much better than this, and not a stab at Wii hardware or anything, but if you can't really go balls out, why try o.O; I'd rather they just stick to a proven formula that works than drift out for the sake of "expansion". When I think Wii I don't think HDR lighting and insane bump mapping, I'd rather they just use alternative lighting methods that look much better than cheap HDR, and simple shades.

Nintendo games often times look AMAZING, but not because they're pushing insane poly counts or ubar texture resolutions or any of that tech stuff, but because they have genuine style :/ This game seems to be wanting to "utilize" wii hardware, yet the game it's self looks worse than almost every Ninty first party game :/ I'm not sure what else the engine is really capable of, and I support they're effort, I just think they might be pushing the wrong direction :x

Chronotrigger - unlike the other nintendo style these guys are going for photo realism. That's the reason for "all that tech stuff..."

The point is to say their is room for the photo realism niche on the Wii and that their engine can do it. They put their balls to the wall and I'm in line with my hammer, I wanna hear a release date so I can take a swing.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Thats the problem though, they're attempting to go "photo realistic" and those screeny's look absolutely nothing like realistic :/ If they have to go balls out on the lighting, but end up using crap textures, point moot? I just think if they want to go for photo realism they need to massively tone down certain areas, I mean honestly, I've seen more realistic looking games on the Gamecube, and I know the Wii has more power than that. I just think the Wii's hardware isn't quite up to snuff for the new age methods of rendering graphics, I think the Wii should just advance on the technologies they used to use on the gamecube, higher res textures, quicker framerates, higher poly count.

This game isn't even out yet, and I've been hearing tons of hype about it rivaling PS3 and 360 graphics, I mean is this seriously the screen shots they have to show for this o.O? This game looks SIGNIFICANTLY worse than I think every launch title for the PS3 and 360 :x I honest to god think RE4 on the gamecube looks better than the shots posted. Something just doesn't seem right lol. If you want graphics to rival the PS3 and 360, just do it Ninty's way, with style xD

Remind me never to promise you anything

If we were talking about a game in playable form that was being demonstrated in a public way I would be worried ...

Being that this is still (really) early, shadows should come for 'Free' with some of the lighting techniques they had in the demo video, and it doesn't take much to produce much better shadows (they were possible on the N64) I think it is way too early to assume that they're cutting corners in order to produce better graphics in another area.

I hope they improve those graphics... they promised too much..

It's not even the shadows that really bother me though, I'm thinking more along the lines that well..

1.) Everything looks like cardboard, wtf with the copy paste? ;-;
2.) Draw distance, yes it's fog... but wth.
3.) The creatures have this strange gleam of light reflecting off them, where is this light? Or are the creatures just naturally look like light is reflecting off them o.O?
4.) The textures on that gun aren't just bad, they're morbid x.x;

These shots are just so un-refined it worries the hell out of me :x I'd MUCH RATHER have a simple, smooth, appearance that looks genuinely amazing from an artistic point of view than this :x I mean could you imagine if a bunch of Wii devs got a hold of something like this? Blech >

I think I'll wait until E3 before passing any real judgment on the product. These screenshots are clearly early and there are some graphical inconsistencies that pretty much confirm for me that it's too soon to say too much.

this game looks last gen, alpha stage or not.
gameplay wise it doesnt look so interesting either.

 What FPS game EVER looks iterseting game wise?  Screen Shots wise they all look the same.  Guy looking out at stuff, with a gun sticking out of the middle of a screen.

 You have to really play, or see videos of FPS before you can tell if it's interesting.  I mean a video of Left 4 Dead would just be a view of zombies with at the bottom of the screen gun,  Halo a view of aliens, with a gun there.

 Well unless it has kickass features that make it different.  Like Borderlands...
