Forums - Sales Discussion - Why is the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 doing so terrible in Japan?

The Xbox 360 has sold around 400,000 units in Japan, and the Playstation 3 has sold around 900,000 units in Japan. Compared to the Wii, which has sold over 2,500,000 units in Japan, this is pretty embarassing.

Why is the Xbox 360 doing so terrible in Japan?

Will the Xbox 360 sell more in Japan, in the future?

If Playstation 3 fails, will the Xbox 360 see more sales in Japan? If so, how much more?

360 is marketed pretty poorly there and has a lot of games that don't appeal to Japanese gamers (shooters, sports, western RPG's). PS3 has a similar problem in that it has had no game releases for months for Japanese gamers, though it's selling more based on the Sony brand and its use as a Blu-Ray player.

Why do people limit their games to Japanese, or American?

the ps3 will pick up eventually and it will sell close to 5 million units by the end of its life time in japan

Madden and Halo 3 don't translate.

Well, at least some Japanese are enjoying the Xbox, and Xbox 360.
