Forums - Nintendo - Theres no price cut in this fiscal year, maybe even 4 years says Iwata

http://www.totalvideogames.com/news/Nintendo_Reveals_Juicy_Info_13176_5386_0.htm

"Responding to calls for a DS and Wii price cut, Iwata-san hinted that no such move will take place in the current fiscal year, commenting, "We have not made our financial forecast with the premise of a hardware price cut," before adding, "we are not foreseeing the necessity for us to do a price cut in this fiscal year."

"Suggesting that Nintendo are looking to change the typical model that relies on price reductions and a four-year life-cycle, Iwata-san mentions the risk of a price cut upsetting consumers that have already bought a Wii or DS."

Its too long for me to copy and paste all of it, but I've paste the important part anyway

If they're worried about a price cut upsetting consumers I don't see how people think Wii HD is coming out next year as some have predicted.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Sure they'll cut the price, but only when they need to and not a moment sooner. Anyone thinking they cut the price just because it's been out X years or Y months is a moron. Supply and demand people.

it's the same thing with the DS, there has just been no need to have a cut it is selling so well worldwide. It outsold the PS2 and became the highest selling gaming device in Japan without even getting a price cut, now that's amazing. In Europe and America the DS sales have only been rising. It's the same with the wii, we probably won't see a cut until 2010 or later. As soon as sales start to lag a little bit expect the price cut to be waiting in the wings.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

i dont se a need for a price cut, they cant even keep them on shelves, and cutting the price will make it even worse.

Every console maker that I can remember has always tried to eliminate rumors about price cuts in whatever way they can; claiming that there may never be a price cut is about as effective as an argument as I can think of.

Now, one reason I could see why Nintendo might actually mean this (and it is not just "Rumor Defence") would be inflation. In most western countries, inflation is running very high right now with some ways of measuring it estimating it at (up to) 12%; if this continues the Wii will not need to cut its price because everything will get so expensive that the Wii will look more and more affordable.

they don't need a price cut anyways

Tell people to stop wanting the Wii so much. It's likely the only way a price cut is going to happen.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

They'll cut the price when they need to. Such as if Wii sales start to saturate in an area they'll drop the price.

Don't you mean "supply starts to saturate"? There is a saturation of sales. That's why it's selling out.
