Forums - Nintendo - Best solution for Wii memory problem?

SD cards would be the best solution. It woudl be this generations' memory cards for the Wii.

im all for SD cards but isnt the wii usb controller only desiged to tak eup to 2gb cards?

Also arnt all abot 2gb ie 4gb and up those high density ultra II, ones can the wii even read those?

@Cobretti2

My Wii can read my 4gb card in the Wii menu perfectly and can read and write to it perfectly in Smash Bros. All that is required is a menu update with the same SD card driver support Smash Bros uses.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Just allow use of data off the SD cards. You wouldn't have to send in the system, and it would apply to all Wiis with a connection to the web.

I have to agree that it is the best solution.

ok well that is cool. I figured the SD controller had more stricter limitations (as in phyisically) so even an update wouldn't do much.

@Joora: SD cards have faster read speeds then the DVD rom drive on the Wii (most offer a min of 2x the read speed of the Wii's DVD drive unit) so read speeds are a non issue. Write speeds will be as fast as you can write to the internal memory on your Wii, so both are a non issue.

By flash memory I assume you mean USB? SD cards use flash BTW.

Yeah, i meant on USB, i know both are flash based.

Anyway, faster is (almost) always better, so choosing fastest method would maybe enable some improvements, as in load times, or even eliminate some ingame loading.

.

SD, most certainly. It's fast, discretely hidden, already shares the same file format as the Wii (FAT16/32), already has the sub menu built in, etc....

A USB HDD based solution has only 1 advantage and that's overall capacity.

And with the Wii not having game demos and multimedia, it's not a vital advantage.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

They can do the SD card route and allow you to play game saves off of that a special one released by nintendo probally and also more windows for more games.

"Like you know"

Software update to allow bigger sd cards, and usb harddrives for storage
and
The introduction of an elite wii, with much more (say 4 gb) internal memory and a cd/dvd player
