I'm in the same situation (so a new topic would probably have been redundant) : European gamer finally going to the dark side and getting a Playstation 2.

I haven't bought the console yet, but have ordered a few games already :

• Space Channel 5, Part 2 (big fan of the first on Dreamcast, I always wanted to get the sequel)

• Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (I'm getting PC version for MGS2)

• ICO

• Shadow of the Colossus

• We love Katamari

• Silent Hill (PS)

Other games I'm thinking about :

• God of War I & II (there seems to be a lot of hype around this game)

• Devil May Cry 1, 2, 3 (seems good, although also seems to be declining in quality so I'm really not sure about 2 & 3)

• Katamari Damacy (if I like We love Katamari)

• Silent Hill 4 (if I don't get it on PC, like SH2&3)

• R-Type Final (fan of the original R-Type)

• R-Type Delta (PS)

• Fatal Frame 1, 2, 3 (if I like Fatal Frame IV when it comes to the Wii)

• Sega SuperStars (includes some Space Channel 5 and Samba de Amigo, I'll probably need to get a complete EyeToy: Play for the camera)

• PaRappa the Rapper (PS) then maybe PaRappa the Rapper 2 and UmJammer Lammy

• Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS)

 

That's all I could think of for now. New suggestions are welcome, or comments on games of my "maybe" list.

 

I won't have much time to play it yet. I have a huge backlog of games already and I'm also getting Okami (Wii) next Friday and Super Smash Bros. Brawl at the end of the month.

 

And to answer allergic's question to why one would get a PS2 instead of a 360, for me the answer would be : games. I never owned a Sony console and there are quite a few decent games that I've missed out. The 360 doesn't have much games I'm interested in. Most of them are available on PC, and I don't feel any rush to get them on there anyway. So far the only exclusive I'm interested in is Dead Rising, and unfortunately it seems to be really optimized for HD TVs and harder to play on a standard one (unreadable text...).

I am not so sure I am interested aymore though, I really only wanted a PS2 for GTA and some racing sims, probably a Gran Turismo and the most recent iteration of Formula 1 racing. However I bought Vice City for my Laptop and it worked fine (I had not bought it earlier because I have GTA3 and it likes to crash my laptop, so I assumed VC would do the same)

As such the only real incentive to get a PS2 is for Formula 1.... which I can hold on tbh. Though I live in hope that Sony stopping their liscence of F1 might mean the Wii gets a liscenced F1 game.

 

Jak 1-3, Ratchet games, GTA games, GT games, God of War games, Ace Combat games, FF X-XII, SO 3 and Mercenaries

Oh, and ZOE and MGS games, and DMC games and maybe WipEout or the Colin MacRae or WRC games
