What are the differences between Mega Man 1 through 6 on the NES? How many games had 6 installments on the NES? We had 3 Marios, 3 Castlevanias, 2 Contras, 3 Dragon Quests, 3 Final Fantasies, and I can't think of any franchises that got 4 or 5 NES installments off the top of my head. Can anybody else? I'm just drawing a blank, but right now off the top of my head it looks like at its debut it doubled the other big NES franchises.

Sliding, Charge shots, Rush Spring/Jet/Armor, Beat, Protoman...etc. Every game also had 8 new bosses and weapon power-ups (minus the original). Mario is still using the same mushrooms he used in 1989.

Go play the original Megaman game then go play Megaman 6. They play very differently.

I kinda think the inovation tapered off towards 5 and 6 honestly. That's probably one reason why 2,3 and 4 see more time in my NES rotation. 1 sees about as much time as 5 and 6 for me.

Mega Man 5 was actually my favorite as it had all the comforts of later games plus Gravity Man's awesome stage (which did all the Gravity Super Mario Galaxy like stuff).  Megaman 4 was my 2nd favorite because it was the first game to introduce the charge shot and it had Pharaoh Man and Drill Man and Skull Man who were all awesome.

Megaman 6 was kind of disappointing though the RUSH Armor was very cool.

@Kasz: No comment on my correction to your correction of kingofwale?

Not really, it's basically just a difference of opinion on the word lately.

Erm... considering it's been almost half a year since the last Mega Man game, I'd say that's a pretty small hair to split but okay.

I haven't seen a Mega man game lately... so Mario takes the cake. :)

Don't own a DS?

I wasn't aware I'm obligated to play megaman game if I own a DS... but okay

How does whether or not you play a game indicate it's level of being milked. My point was there are like 6 Megman games on DS. The Megaman franchise went portable because the 3D translation of Megaman didn't work.

Let's count the number of Mario game on DS shall we?

*Mario Party DS
* Mario and Sonic
*Itadaki Street DS
*Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis
*Yoshi's Island DS
*
Game & Watch Collection
*New Super Mario Bros.

*Mario Hoops 3-on-3
*Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis
*
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
*
Mario Kart DS
*
Super Princess Peach

I'd argue that the number of games on one system is irrelevent compared to the overall number of games involving each character. The statement of Megaman games on DS (and PSP) is just to show that the Megaman series is still being milked, therefore it would be inaccurate to potray it as a series not being milked anymore.

I believe Megaman even has Mario beat in number of cartoons made after the series.

Kasz216, while I enjoyed both soccer games, I prefer Mario Strikers. I prefer crazy arcade sports games with turbo, power-ups, and items and whatnot. I see Mario Strikers as the spiritual successor to NBA Jam: Tournament Edition, in that it's fast-paced 4 player mayhem, and is 50% about turbo fouling and 50% about amazing razzle dazzle monster jams.

kingofwale, you seriously think Game & Watch Collection is a Mario game? And Super Princess Peach? And if you're going to count Itadaki Street as a Mario game, do you count Soulcalibur 2 as a Zelda game and Soulcalibur 4 as a Star Wars game?

the defition of "milking" implies using the character over and over again. I simply listed all the games on DS with Mario in it. Not a game staring Mario

Here's a list of game that has mario in it in certain extend. List is over 200 games.

Well you can define milking how you'd like, but to a certain extent, using the same character again and again is how you draw in the fans. Do you think James Bond or Sherlock Holmes got milked? Fans weren't demanding innovation in Bond books or films or in Holmes books.

If a game sells well, it will get a sequel. If a franchise continues to sell well, it will get many sequels and spin-offs. It' the same with every franchise and every developer. Mario games will stop being made when they stop being the best.

The Mario franchise is unique in that not only does it always bring the same flavor of fun, it always innovates, so we can have the same old fun in new different ways.

Mario is synonymous with fun video games. When a new major Mario game comes out, people pay attention. When a new Sonic or Mega Man game comes out, nobody even notices.

Mario cameos are all over the place because he is the single most recognizable face in gaming.

And what do you think about the cameos in Soulcalibur?

What kind of lame criticism is that? Didn't you see that he also listed a game twice? Even more important, he is using wikipedia as source.

You're under the impression I read more than 5% of anything kingofwale writes.

Mario and Mega Man are both milked heavily, just in very different ways. Mega Man is milked by continuing to pump out platformer after platformer with very little to tell apart from eachother. Mario is milked by the vast amount of spinoffs Nintendo places him in. With that being said, Mega Man platformers and Mario spinoffs ae still oftentimes really awesome, so I have no reason to complain about it.

What did you totally miss the crapfest that was Battle Network?  The freaky entry into 3D that almost kinda but didn't work known as Legends?  The spinoff Mega Man Zero games that completely ditched the entire robot master formula as well as all the others?

Do you actually know anything about the Mega Man franchise?

Seriously, your complaint may have been valid in the 90s but not today.  You fail.
