Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3 Bundle
To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for $499.99 (MSRP).

Its not really clear at this point whether it will have the 65nm processor, etc. Logic would dictate that they would switch the internal components (I think they stopped making 80 gigs units for awhile which would give them time to make the change), but who knows. I don't think we will really know until the bundle hits stores.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Wait. I need more info. here.
the 80G SKU is the same one they had last year? Or is it new?
What is the difference between the old tech and new tech?

 It's new tech. Why would Sony go back to the old/more expensive Cell? This new 80Gb will run as quiet and cold as the current 40Gb. And believe me, I have a 40Gb and a 60Gb and the 40Gb is completely silent and runs much cooler when compared to the 60Gb.

 Why would they use the more expensive 90nm Cell processor? They will most likely use the cheaper 65mn Cell and hopefully a 65mn RSX too ;)

I'd actually prefer the 80 GB for the extra $100 for a lot of reasons.

1.  More space...with most games now requiring HD space to play, you'll be able to have more games installed at a particular time.

2.  More ports...the 40GB only has two USB ports which sucks when you're trying to play Rock Band.  The 80GB has more than that (at least 4...maybe 6).

3.  The 80GB is ps2 backwards compatible which is huge to me.

i dont think so

People always seem to overrate backwards compatibility. If you really are going to be playing PS2 games regularly after you've bought a PS3, you should consider whether it's even worth buying. Or you could just keep your PS2 hooked to an SD tv somewhere in your house.

All current PS3 use the 65nm tech for CELL, but the RSX as far as I know has yet not made the leap to 65nm, but it will apparently start being mass produced and put into PS3 come some time around october, though I could be wrong.

40Gb = 2 USB ports, 60/80Gb = 4 USB ports

The steel colored one supposedly has two more in the back, making it 6.
