Since when did Japan ever get bigger shipments than Europe? Might want to go look at that chart on the front page.
Shams, Nintendo said the increase will take effect in July.

Yeah!! I mean its not like they have to coordinate with 50 to 60 different businesses/governments to increase production evenly and in sync...and there aren't issues with getting raw materials or the factory space or the factory tooling, they don't need more quality assurance, or more workers, they surely don't need to worry about the shipment infrastructure, they don't even have to worry about complicated taxes/tariffs and laws that span these numerous countries, etc... none of that is actually a factor so they can just turn the dial and an extra 600k Wii's magically appear on the trucks each month..so whats the hold up??!?! just turn the dial!
/sarcasm off |
To make it even worse, they also have to increase production of Wii Remotes, software, the number of servers for online play, maybe support staff... It's an endless list of things.

It's about time.
It looks like my year end hardware estimates will be quite low now, but my numbers were based on the very conservative assumption that they would not up production at all.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia. Thanks WordsofWisdom!
if i was nintendo i would put the price of the wii up just a little bit to try an decrease demand because obviously nintendo is no good at making enough wii's. plus they can make an even bigger profit
That would be corporate suicide. You never increase a products MSRP this far since launch.
And saying they are no good at making them is a bit rough considering Foxconn is the company that actually manufactures them and they run 24/7/365 and the current rate is equal to the highest continual rate from the PS2.
Couple that with the Wi-Fi provider making more than they ever have, the accelerometer company producing as many as possible, the disc drive being developed as fast as possible, etc...and you can't really blame it all on Nintendo.

i'm glad you're not nintendo then! stupid idea.
| shams said: The key phrase here is "...preparing to increase...". The increased production target will be hit sometime in the next fiscal year - but that doesn't necessarily mean they are hitting it now. Regardless, I think this year they will be stockpiling like crazy x10 for Xmas - much more so than last year. Their aim is for anyone who wants to buy a Wii, to be able to. |
I hope so shams. I am one of those hungry so-to-be-Wii-owner. If only I could just walk into a video game department at anytime during the week or day and simply ask "I'm here to purchase a Wii" and the response from the cashier is "Okay is that all you want, I will go grab the Nintendo Wii for you".
I will be so happy when that day comes. I'm hoping its this month, June or anytime this summer. Because I want one for myself and for my family members to enjoy.
