Forums - Gaming - On third party hostility against Nintendo

Kenny, I understand what you mean but on the flip side, we are getting Call of Duty 5, we stole Monster Hunter III and Fatal Frame 4 and I'm hearing lots more will be revealed at E3.

The only one of late that bothered me is the new PoP title. I don't know how long ago Ubisoft planned the title but I'd suspect it was after the success of Wii become well known. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was planned long ago so it gets a free pass.

Dvarca1231, don't forget, it takes 2-3 years of planning and development so we are still not quite beyond that point yet. E3 is going to shed a lot of light.

usually only ninty games sell on a ninty system, and mabey some developers dont want to run the risk of loosing there reputation for creating a wii game that didnt sell

PES08 Wii is selling great, especially considering it was launched much later than the PS2, PS3 and 360 versions.

Seriously, the "third party games can't sell on Wii" is getting REALLY old. Anti-Wii fanboys, please find a new argument, this one doesn't work anymore.

I'm with Viper on this one, especially the point about how the 2-3 year development cycle means that we're just starting to see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to third party support. Remember, the Wii's domination was not widely accepted until a few months ago, when developers saw that it was still selling out over a year after release and doing very well for itself overseas. Remember also that even with multi-platform titles, it still takes a lot of effort to include a new console that you hadn't originally intended to work with. Look at Civilzation Revolution for a prime example: the Wii version was added in the middle of development because Firazis realized the Wii was not a fad, but they had to pull the Wii version a few months later because it simply was too inefficient to include it that late in the game.

I strongly suspect something similar happened with Prince of Persia, since it's an important franchise for Ubisoft and you can bet they've been working on that game for a long while now. Besides, the tide's already starting to turn in the Wii's favor. Crash Bandicoot has the Wii as its lead system, despite the fact that it's coming out for the 360 and PS3 as well. Sure, that's not a coup of Monster Hunter 3 proportions, but it's not something anyone would have seen coming before the Wii's launch, and I submit that it may be the first sign of things to come. Now,if third parties are still significantly snubbing the system a year from now, you guys can feel free to tell me how wrong I was. But I kind of doubt that I'm going to be.

The Wii is not a model on which to base the fact that you don't need third parties. In fact, they are the only ones that can get away with it. Take Mario away from them and you lose about half of the top twenty games in Europe right now. Mario alongside Pokemon and Zelda keep them afloat.

Just made me remember Sorikus first post, welcome to the site, and dont become like Soriku please

Welcome to the community, Kenny. Your insights mirror many of my own and are welcomed among this sea of lost logic and rejected reason.

Are you implying that yours and his intellect are far superior to everybody else's and that only you two can reason and argue soundly? That's a pretty arrognat statement and probably offended hundreds in here (I know it offended me).

Only if you suspect there are only 2 islands in this sea.   I merely implied it a majority, not an absolute.   The sparks of logic posted here are often quickly overshadowed by multitudes of irrationality.  However, that is not exclusive to VGC.
