Forums - Sales - Grand Theft Auto IV... 100 million spent? (Cost of GTAIV)

Shenmue will certainly maintain the record when inflation is taken into account but unfortunately most of these kind of monetary lists don't. Just look at highest grossing movie lists for example.

Yeah eh... I guess otherwise no movie will ever catch up to the Titanic in revenue earned.

Supposedly, Gone With The Wind had over a billion in domestic gross revenue taking inflation into account. Titanic did $600 million.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Honestly, this doesn't surprise me one bit. All you have to do is watch the intro to see how much money Rockstar threw at this game. Then you start playing it and realize how much more money they threw at the rest of it.

BTW, as much as I hate the review system and think this game is massively overrated, I have to give Rockstar real credit for that intro. It's one of the most cinematic and engaging game intros I have ever seen.

Oh wow...titanic isn't even close to the top 3...nevermind :)

If you account for inflation, I don't see how any movie other than Star Wars tops every list. That movie held top honors for years and was re-released twice.

edit: I see they didn't count the re-releases. Oh well.

Yes but Gone with the Wind didn't have as big an international success as Titanic did, even accounting for inflation..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

True but in the 1940's, you didn't have the global film industry we had in 1997.

@ Ali

True but Gone with the wind still did 200 million internationally.

This is about 1.4 billion today if we take in to account the inflation for the domestic inflarion from the movie. Not to shabby...It should still be in the top 3.

@rocketpig

They did count the re-releases for star wars. It made 460 million counting both editions.

GTA4 is the Titanic of gaming.
100 million spent is nothing compared to how much they will make on the game...

And shams, 100 millions invested to make 250 millions profit is as good as it gets in any kind of industry...

As for the risk, it's GTA 4, a proven successfull franchise being developed by the same people that did the next installment.

The risks are a lot lower than they would be in creating new IP...

Actually, that return on investment (ROI) isn't all that great. That would only be a 250% ROI. Good but not great.

There are many games that produce better ROIs. Tetris is probably the king of ROI. Most of the better selling Wii games probably have better ROI.

Yes it is counted for.

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.
