Forums - Sales - Are PS3 and 360 dead in Japan? Lowest Sales ever for Both Consoles...

The PS3 isn't dead, but its pretty sickly. Final Fantasy will boost sales, but it will never get a good foothold in the market over there. It will sell a few million and Sony will learn their lesson.

you actually mean the PS3 is dead, cause the 360 figures aren't surprising or unexpected at all... and yes, the PS3 is doing plain bad in Japan... but somehow, and call it wishfull thinking, I can't believe that more Japanese won't at some point want a high-tech follow up of the PS2, the market might have really changed if we can believe the sales figures, but Japan is a high-tech country and the PS2 owner-base is so huge, so I find it hard to believe that the Japanese would stay satisfied with only the Wii and hendhelds..

This is all wrong. Japan being the high tech country that it is had these things years before the other regions. They are a common thing , and when something is common it doesn't appeal to you as much as a new innovative product especially in japan. So basically what I'm saying is they already have the high tech stuff, and don't see the ps3 as amazing as the US or Others do.

@ OP the 360 is dead, but the ps3 has SOME life in it. Once a console sells in japan it keeps selling, and it seems to me the wii is selling. Most ps3 games are western centered, and the japanese aren't too amazed by the ps3s new technology, because they have it already. So a redisign and some big rpgs like FF might bring it back. You also have to consider though that the Wii is most likely getting DQ which in sales DQ>FF in japan. SO that may just cancel out that. If white knight chronicles and a few others do well I see them boosting sales too. The ps3 will never take the market back though in japan. I would say the most it could get is 20% back.

What Leo-J said and what Prodigy_be said before in a other thread.

There was a time when PSP sold awful in Japan but look to the sales of it now, it is possible that the PS3 will have a time like that too.

if Monster Hunter Portable can save PSP , Monster Hunter 3 will make PS3 selling like hot cakes too

what? MH3 moved to the Wii? Then wait for the Final Fantasy to be their saviour

It dropped even lower despite the release of Valkyria Chronicles? You'd think it'd at least stay the same. :|

Some of you need to wake up this is where things are right now:

The average weekly performance since the beginning of the year has looked like this:

X3603,6293.54%
PS323,47422.90%
Wii75,38873.56%

*Keep in mind thes are a bit inflated due to the lingering holiday effect at the beginning of the year.

What about this picture makes anyone think that developers want to invest money into games for the HD market in Japan? Projects that are in production are probably fighting for funding to keep them going as most investors would cut their losses 2 months ago. FF13 is going to be the last best hope but its still so far away that things are likely going to get worse before they get better. What that means for the launch of FF13 is anyone's guess but it can't help.

Holy...wow.

I had no idea Nintendo had that much market share in Japan. I really have no doubt now that the Wii will eventually amass Japanese developer support. It's the only way they can make money in their own homeland.

I wonder what Ken Kutaragi thinks when he/if he sees weekly and monthly console sales in his country.

I bet he doesn't think they can still sell 5 million PS3's with no games anymore.
