Forums - Gaming - How Good was the Sega Dreamcast?

I'd say it was worth buying now. I honestly think it deserved to of been the winner last gen and got most the software support instead of the PS2. The Dreamcast was ahead of it's time on MANY different functions. Dedicated servers, Dream Eye... all sorts of other crap I can't even remember off the top of my head... and it looked better then the PS2 in the multiplat games between the two.

Sad thing was nobody paid dreamcast anymind because of the CD, 32X and Saturn. Oh and the Neptune that never came out... well that was just the 32X etc... but still... eh.

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's worth it for Power Stone alone

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I had more memorable moments with my DC than in 5 years of GC ownership. Get Blue Stinger off that list. God that game was terrible. Throw on the 2K sports games because they were in a class by themselves in those days. Oh, and Marvel vs. Capcom FTW. Best 2D fighters ever.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Really?  I was under the impression that people liked Blue Stinger.  What was wrong with it?  Just curious.

Wow, I just remembered Metropolis Street Racer, MDK2, and Grandia 2. All these games came out within 2 years of the DC's release. I love my PS3, but in the 18 months it's been on the market, it definitely hasn't come this close to greatness.

It was just a really clunky Resident Evil wannabe. The camera in particular got in the way constantly. There wasn't anything particularly innovative about the title. It was kinda cool at the time because of the huge step up in graphics compared Resident Evils on PS1 but that's about it.

I guess this thread should be a total venue to talk about anything regarding the Dreamcast. Games you remember, the hardware, how PS2 screwed Sega, j/k. It really did die too fast...........I really sympathize with Sega, they were pushing the industry, they were risk takers. At least they're not totally gone! (I wish Sony would buy them :) )

Meh, Sega is dead to me. I think it's pretty clear they've lost just about all their development talent from the Dreamcast days. Maybe Valkyria Chronicles will change my mind. Honestly, the ideal situation would have been Sega accepting Microsoft's offer to buy them after the DC was canned. MS would have provided the cash infusion Sega always needed. On top of that, it would've given Sega a system to focus on. I really feel like in the aftermath of the DC, Sega didn't have a clear direction or strategy. Oh well, we can always wonder at what could've been.
