Forums - PC Discussion - Team Fortress 2 update tomorrow April 29th

http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/04/27/team-fortress-2-goldrush

New Map. New Gameplay. New Medic Achievements & Milestones

Goldrush is an entirely new level featuring a new gameplay style called Payload.

The level is split into three separate areas with capture zones inside of each major chapter. The teams are split between offense (blue) and defense (red) similar to dustbowl.

The goal for the blue team is to push the bomb payload throughout the level until it reaches the next capture point, eventually destroying all three of the red teams major bases. Blue pushes the level by standing near it, and the cart will move faster the more people standing near it, which is a concept familiar to anyone who plays team based multi player games. If no one has pushed the cart forward after 30 seconds, the cart will begin to move backward until it is pushed forward again. This makes for some very concentrated and hectic exchanges indeed.

Goldrush is a map specifically focused on pacing, so the player feels like they are part of an overall team focus instead of being a lone wolf. Each member of the team naturally has to focus on both the overall goal of either advancing or stopping the payload, but also on the local threats, like that heavy backed up by a medic. Goldrush has been designed taking all nine classes into account, which means there is truly a place for everyone and their favorite class to be useful.

The update will be released this Tuesday, April 29th.

So load up Steam on Tuesday, and make sure to get this free update for the PC version of TF 2.

When asked about the console versions, Valve was unable to give us a solid release date, but said they did plan on releasing this update as soon as they possibly could.

My take: I'm totally pumped for this.   We have all read about this update for a while and its finally coming.  I really want to play Goldrush because I have been playing escort maps for a few weeks now and I really like them.  I wonder which one of you gets the achievements done first.  I know it won't be me.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

I await the update eagerly.

Especially since I expected it last week...damn Valve time.

Goldrush looks like an awesome map. And it'll be fun earning more achievements and new weapons over time.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

"I sense a great disturbance in the force...."

d'oh! and I just ordered Enemy Territory Quake Wars too. Looks like that'll have to sit on the shelf for a little bit after it gets here.

I really expect to see at least 25 servers that are running 24/7 Goldrush.

I really expect to see even more "UNLOCK YOUR MEDIC ACHIEVEMENTS HERE" servers than that.

I thought I already played gold rush? I played one with a cart, in a mine of some kind.

That was es_cave or es_goldmine or something along those lines. When the payload game type was announced a whole bunch of people made the escort maps (es). That is about as close as anyone has gotten to the real game type so far.

I actually agree with you on the medic achievemnt servers.  I'm sure there will be people who will try to ruin it though.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

I can't wait for every single server to start playing this map 24/7 for the next two months, and for half the players on every team being medics more interested in getting the crazy achievements than playing properly. =P

why is it EVERYTHING is being released April 29th?
