Forums - Gaming - WTF! GTAIV 360: 720p, PS3: 620p ?!?

Pixels argument is moot, You can have a 5MP camera and it still won't look as good as my 3MP when I have one with better processor. Picture quality (and in this case video quality) depends heavily on the video/upscale processor.

I don't even know if it's true, I just want my game to look good.

It would be interesting if it was true. The PS3 version looks better by everyones accounts. For that to be the case and less resolution could be a case study in itself.

Ah.. thats too funny if true!

You know whats really funny Gebx, this is a gif of the 360 version. I hope you enjoy your higher native Resolution.

No, what's truly funny is your reliance on a 160x90 animated gif that runs at God only knows what framerate as proof of anything.

I don't really care what framerate the gif runs at, but i can clearly tell major pop-ins and textures not loading. It also looks like another person has posted a Gif showing off the greatness that is GTA4. But i'll post it again incase you don't see it.

Wow - looks like a "perfect 10" to me, and the "best game ever made" :P

What's a bit of pop-in between friends anyway...

I think the first one is from an old build, but the tree one could be real. It's one of the points made in a review. If that's the final build of the 360, and does not happen on the PS3... again, why not the option to install on the 360? I just don't get it.

One thought that just came to mind:

Since the 360 version does more streaming from DVD than the PS3 one (presume the PS3 still needs the disc, not like the entire game is pre-installed... is it?) - performance on "some" 360 units will be terrible.

Drives have a tendency for their seek/load times to degrade over time (or when the lens/heads gets dirty, etc). So on newer or test units the game would run great - but on 360 units with dirty heads, the seek/load times will be significantly increased - leading to lots of wacky pop-in issues (to the point where on some units, the game will be almost unplayable).

This will happen to PS3 units as well (esp. with their CAV drives, and lower streaming rates) - but its more likely to happen to 360 units I would guess.

I'll give it 24-48 hours before hundreds (if not thousands) of reports of "flakey" GTA4 performance hits the web. That's heavy streaming games for you anyway...

(edit - same basic issue as those Wii units had that can't read Brawl or MK properly)

Gesta Non Verba

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

So, we have the words of one man, who hasn't shared his screenshots with us, so how are we to know that it is true? How do we know that the screenshots he looked at weren't the other way around, with the PS3 version being 720p?

If anyone has them, I'd like to see it.

Didn't Halo 3 run at 640p?

No, the box also says it runs in native 720p for both platforms, the PS3 version is the only one that upscales to 1080p as well, I googled it.

The install I think is close to 4 gig, so all the textures that need to be streamed are probably on the HD. All the FMV, audio, and code that does not need to be streamed is probably still on the disk.

You "googled it"? Well I guess we can close the thread now, apparently leo-j googled it....

The box doesn't say native resolutions. Game boxes have said for some time now the standard resolutions it upscales to so that the average consumer isn't confused. Halo 3 didn't say 640p. CoD4 didn't say 600p. I know the PS3 GTA box says 720p/1080i/1080p but those aren't native resolutions.

The guy who brought this up on NeoGAF is the same who found out Halo and CoD's actual resolutions. I'd say at this point he has some credibility....

Which would explain why 360 version seem to have more pop in? It might just be the disc reader problem?

It's arguements like this that make me love the internet and VGChartz in general.
