Its a prediction - learn to respect that whether you agree or disagree FFS |
It's not fanboyism. It's just that your prediction assumes that the PS3 will suddenly start outselling the 360 by 800,000 a month starting.... NOW. Considering it's not even selling 800,000 a month, period... outselling by that much seems rather... fanboyish.
He thought you were joking because making a Q4 2009 prediction for PS3 to overtake the 360 is like predicting the Detroit Lions to go undefeated this year. Some predictions are valid, and some are validly laughable...

Well my prediction is not completely off - doing so simple calculations:
PS3 is selling roughly 130K a week >> 520K a month ish. Now thats without any huge game releases, any amount of a price cut, no holiday season etc.
So when it does get its big hitters like FF13 in Japan (which is guarenteed to be big), Killzone 2 just around the corner (we'll see how this does) and Yakuza 3 in just a couple of days too, we should see some improvement. Also take into account that there are the Biohazard 5 and Yakuza 3 bundles which should do well in Japan. And if God of War 3 comes out this year - it'll likely be near christmas and will likely getting its own bundle too. Look at the Advent Children PS3 bundle - it sold out almost immediately. Wait for the FF13 bundle.
All this + a price cut no matter how big, the PS3 begin to outsell 360. It may not be on my prediction, but it certainly wont be long after.

These were the same arguments being used last year for when a price cut + MGS4 and other releases would be the demise of the Xbox. Since then, the 360 has padded its lead by 2 million. PS3's "big hitters" have created small bumps at best, and these predictions seem to assume that Microsoft is going to say "ho-hum, Sony's catching up. Lets sit on our hands an watch... and not release any games."
And even with a major ($100) price cut, even if the PS3 starts outsetting the 360 right away, it WILL be long after. even if the PS3 tripled it's current sales, and the 360 stayed flat, it would take almost 3 years to catch up.
|
And the reason for all this was because the 360 got a price cut. If it hadnt, PS3 may only be about 3 million behind the 360 right now. So if Sony starts getting close again, maybe we can expect another one

Sigh I really hoped you were joking

And I really hope you're not as stupid as you are being on here

I hate getting involved in these things as it is silly but i thought i would point something out to you.
The PS3 had a price cut before the 360's price cut in September. If you follow the numbers from 1st Jan to 1st July you see the PS3 sold 5.099m consoles where as the 360 sold 3.7m consoles. A difference of almost 1.4m consoles.
Naturally MGS4 helped with those numbers. What happens after that is the bit that prooves your theory wrong. You see from 1st July to the day before the 360 price cut (13th September) the numbers were 1.590m for PS3 and 1.490m for 360. A difference of just 100k. That means the consoles were getting closer in sales before the price cut meaning in 3 months the PS3 worldwide was only beating the 360 by 8k a week. So for it to get to the gap of 3m like you say would mean the PS3 would nead to sell another 1.5m without the 360 price cut. So if it was selling at 100k more every 3 months would mean selling 33k a month. So that would then mean 1.5m divided by 33k to work out the time frame. Thus concluding before the price cut it would of taken 45 months for the PS3 to have gained 3m back on the 360 at it's then sale rate. Meaning it would take 3.7 years to reach that point. Concluding it would not have reached 3m by now regardless of the 360's price cut.
