I just don't see how it's going to happen... this holiday if the PS3 gets beat soundly it's going to be pretty much over... it's already over in the US... PS3's best chance is lower price and maybe a remake model.

Not until Microsofts next console is already on shop shelves, so not for at least another 3 years.
So i guess Q4 2011 (But only because microsoft will be focusing on thier next console)
But next gen Microsoft will CRUSH sony, No two ways about it.
They have beaten up sony badly this generation, They will get the knock out next gen.
Remember folks, Sonys pockets are deep , But Microsofts are just simply deeper....!!!!!
Q4 2009
When I made my prediction of "never" in May '08, I saw two major issues with PS3 overtaking the 360:
- Multiplatform titles with lesser visual quality, for whatever reason you'd like to imagine. This undermines Sony's marketing of the PS3 as technically superior.
- Price. PS3 will always be the most expensive console this generation. That's an even bigger issue now with a worldwide recession.
I considered the advantages of brand recognition and reliability, but I've seen those in past generations. PS3 seems to be in the position of historic last place consoles, where brand-followers will buy it at the beginning, but not at the end.
Anyway, 6 months later my prediction seems much more likely. For the record, I own neither and plan on buying neither.
Never
Sony will invest less and less money on the Ps3. Just take a look on the Sony Corporation Income on the last quarter: $214 millions
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/BUSINESS/10/29/japan.earnings.ap/index.html
Just the game division on MS got $ 178 millions on the last quarter

And remember the yen now is strong.
I also predict that Blu-ray will be like a "laser disk", it won't be that popular like CD/DVD.
Ps. I'm not saying that Blu-ray is a bad product, or High-Def is not important - for me it is, but for most of the people? I don't think so.
Q2 2009
i'll go with q2 of 2011. The Xbox360( microsoft ) may have a few tricks up its sleeve to keep that 2nd spot for a decent lenght of time
