Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in Japan - June 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

June 2026 is the 13th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 0.09 million units when you align the launches.

In the last 12 months, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 1.40 million units. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 2.15 million units.

The 12th month for the Switch 2 is June 2026, while for the Switch 1 it is March 2018. The Switch 2 has sold 6.16 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 4.02 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 36.96 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 30.80 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - June 2026

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

June 2026 is the 68th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 71,410 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.64 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.98 million units.

The 68th month for the PS5 in Japan is June 2026, while for the PS4 it is September 2019. The PS5 has sold 7.63 million units, while the PS4 sold 8.61 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 9 million in month 72 and 9.5 million in month 84. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.05 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

In the last 12 months, the Switch 1 has outsold the Switch 2 by 0.15 million units. The Switch 2 is ahead of the Switch 1 by 0.57 million units.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The PlayStation 5 launched November 12, 2020 in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, and the rest of the world on November 19, 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched worldwide on November 10, 2020.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 13.53 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 58.26 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 93.31 million units in 68 months, while the Xbox Series X|S sold 35.05 million units. The PlayStation 5 has a 72.7 percent marketshare (+2.5% year-over-year), compared to 27.3 percent for the Xbox Series X|S (-2.5% year-over-year).
