Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii, 200 million lifetime?

Uhh... I don't think so.

I'd have to see where the PS2 is going to stop at, and what the Wii's trending like right now, but I think 150 mil lifetime

This seems much more likely to me.

Although it wouldn't be the first time that the Wii has shattered expectations.

Huh? Are you new to the world of electronics, because a 5-year cycle of obsolescence is pretty standard.

No. It will not even outsell the PS2.

MGS4!

I don't even see the Wii hitting 100 million. Sales will eventually drop off and third parties are too lazy to put out quality games on the level of Nintendo devloped games.

If and/or when the Wii gets PS2 type support, the 100m barrier might be broken.

It'll still be the highest selling console this gen though.

so 200 mill Wii's and 80 mill PS3 and 360's would mean 280 mill consoles.. compare that to the 120 + 24 + 22 of the last gen, that's 166 mill, so that would mean the home console industry would grow around 75% this gen, I do believe that the industry can grow over last gen, but not 75%

Dont believe the PS3 iwll end up with 40 million consoles I dont think the 360 will be that low either.

since when was ps2 120M? According to sony since last year at TGS its passed 135M(shipped), and is still selling at almost the same rate as the PS3.

At least Wii will get 6 years of life, maybe as much as 8 years. And the sucsessor will be out before Wii turns 7.

I will be happy if Wii gets to 50 million.
Not like I say Wii won't get to over 100 million or higher, but I want to see Wii at 40 plus million before and have a look at the console trends at the time.

whatever Leo, your missing my point, you can devide the sales how you want, but I'm talking about total industry sales.. and going from around 170 mill to 280 would be an more than epic achievement for the industry, and it seems to me unlikely

March 31st, 2007 - 117,890,000

I highly doubt they shippped 17 million PS2's between April and October of last year.   And technically, that number represts the manufactured total, not shipped because after last FY, Sony began reporting numbers as units sold to retail instead of units produced.

It is impossible that they shipped 135 million by TGS last year and after looking it up, there is not a single reference in Google of PS2 and 135 million.
