Lots of good responses here! Really cool reading all the differing perspectives, and I agree with really everything you guys are saying.

I think the response that has best resonated with me is Veknoid’s— I have become convinced that while new IP is in fact fresh, many times it is the case that pre-established gaming series that introduce the most innovation. I mean, just look at how far forward games such as Mario 64 and Ocarina pushed their respective genres. Same can be said for Mario Odyssey, BotW/TotK, Elden Ring, and so many others.

Both, I suppose, but my two most wanted games are a remake of a 1998 classic in my favorite game series of all time and the first new entry in 20 years of my favorite fighting series.

I think there should be a few more categories. Remakes/remasters/old games. I think we all want to say 'New IP' to make that fresh exciting feeling come back whilst we secretly look forward to Resident Evil Veronica, Ocarina of Time, FF7 Revelation, Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2 & 3 releases just after playing Starfox with the N64 Switch 2 pad and playing Nintendo Online classics XD.

But I'd like to say 'new IP' to keep my horizons open but if I had to be brutally honest Iam too busy playing remakes, falling behind on sequels, trophy hunting & dreaming about future remakes. Ooooo and Minecraft Switch 2 Edition XD.

I would probably vote both if I can. I'm looking forward to sequels like Xenoblade Genesis, God of War Laufay, FF7 Revelation. But I'm also looking forward to new IPs like Wolverine (if that counts), Ill & Lazy River.

I have (or have/had in the household): ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga, NES, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, Gameboy, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Windows 95, Gameboy Colour, Windows 98, Sega Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Windows XP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Windows Vista, iPhone, Windows 7, 3DS, Wii U, PS4, Windows 10, PSVR, Switch, NES Mini, SNES Mini, Zelda Edition Game&Watch, PS5, PSVR2 & Switch 2. :D

and I Don't have: Magnovox Odyssey, Any Atari's, Any Macintosh computers, Sega Gamegear, Virtual Boy, Sega Saturn, N-gage, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PSP, PSVita & Andoid Phone. Plus any non-mainstream consoles/platforms I haven't mentioned.

Too broad of a question. It entirely depends what I am looking for in a series or genre. A game play hook. An Idea. It's a case by case basis.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I am team new ip, which is why I always like FF when it did come to sequels. Brand new stories, settings, characters, battle systems etc. just do it for me.

I want to say new IP but I find myself to lazy to read up on new games. I will miss great new IPs easier than a good new entry in a franchise I'm familiar with.

But if a game deviates to much in style or gameplay from earlier games in that series I prefer them creating a new IP instead. Basically I want to know what I'm buying.
