Glad my rig still has 5 to 8 years, maybe more. Price of components is crippling these days.

everything is getting more expensive. it's ridiculous to think consoles wouldn't either

Well they already have which is why this is especially bad

Relative to historic practices these have been amongst some of the most profitable consoles in history, I don't see these price hikes as inevitable. The console makers above a lot of other businesses are able to ride this out.

I sure as hell hope that this is not true because it's very damaging to the future of console gaming, I'd rather they rise prices elsewhere then make the entry point for console gaming even more inaccessible. At least with services/software etc you can be more selective and reign in your spending. For a hardware purchase though there is only one way to go about that.

I do hope so, too!

My PC is a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Wii-U, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, ps1, ps2, Dreamcast, Mame and I can play Bloodborne at 60 fps.

Edit

Jokes aside, anybody who wants a ps5, PC or S2..  I would buy sooner than later.  I think everything gets hiked significantly this year.

The cost for my PC build has increased from $1,600USD to $2,300USD between September and now— so I’m not all too sure I’d be bringing up PC at this moment. Lol!

Why will it be dead in 20 years?  I can easily replace parts as needed.  For emulation, my PC will last till I die.

The cheapest PS5 Pro I found in the store today cost around 857 Euro(that's 987$), and this in my eastern Europe country(Romania, borderline 3rd world country). After next price increase it will cost between 1050 and 1100$, and that's without the disc drive.

The PS5 is near the end of its lifecycle so these price hikes aren't as devastating as they could be. Especially with how Sony sprinkles major discounts every quarter or so.

But launching the PS6 next year with these astronomical prices for a console? I think that would be at least a little brand damaging after this generation of price hikes.
