why do I say multiplatform when I mean multiplayer?..

good for the grand prix's, but the battle mode was for me and many guys I know the heart of Mario Kart, anyways, I still need to get and play this game myself, so I will wait with further judging till I've played it enough myself

people act like this game is gold, but its really a 7.5-8/10 game, it's not THAT good, its not SSBB so stop acting like it is. can't you just accept its average?

Meh, it's Mario Kart :/ I'm honestly not sure what you guys are looking for in a review. My friends and I used to play MK64 and I'll tell you one thing it was NEVER about, RACING. It was always about finding shortcuts, snaking, and blasting the crap out of my friend with whatever I happened to have (which would suck because he'd fall back in position and get obviously better items than me xD ). 8.4 seems like a good score, besides it's game trailers, these are the guys that couldn't melee in Uncharted, y'know, mash the square button?

I agree with this. Just as Smash Brothers isn't directly abouth fighting your opponent(s), Mario Kart isn't entirely about racing. Even with the original back then (although it was more balanced) you had all these powerful items to help you get from 8th place to 1st in a flash. That's what Mario Kart is all about. The randomness of the races.

'Snaking' was just introduced in Mario Kart DS, though I know you meant Mini-Turbo when you mentioned it. And regarding GameTrailers' reviews, they're generally very good and cover all importants aspects of the games they're reviewing it's just that sometimes they skip some parts of it (In this case the Mario Kart Channel, Item appearence, Friend Codes not being used, etc).

My opinion is worth more than yours and I say you are wrong. Sorry, better luck next time.

 thx

they did comment on friend codes not being used

''Hadouken!''

Yah I meant mini-boosting xD Sorry never played the DS version I figured it was the same thing. I can actually recall SEVERAL instances where I was playing with a friend, and it was my goal to knock his ass off the stage on the Yoshi level in MK64, or I'd get the 3 green shells and hit my friend with one, stop as he stumbled off, and just hold him in position for as long as I could xD I didn't give a rats ass about the position :D It was such a fun game, and for all the wrong reasons I guess :P Of all the racing games in the world that I would take seriously, this series is "seriously" dead last. Different strokes for different folks I guess though :P I will say though that I'm slightly disappointed in this iteration of the series if most of these rebuttal's are true.

I don't want Mario kart to be about the racing :x Why do they keep drifting further away from that original feel >

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

@Kaiser

Snaking was already possible in Double Dash!!.
True, but I meant not on the same scale.  You can easily abuse it in Mario Kart DS but it's harder to do it in previous versions of the game.

I don't see any real issue with making the game accessible. Quite frankly, people complaining that "veteran players are on the same level as novices now" just smacks of elitist mentality. It's a video game. The point isn't to make your opponents scream in rage and want to kill you because you're better at it than they are, the point is to have fun. And if the only way you can have fun is by irritating, belittling, and otherwise dominating other players, why exactly are you playing Mario Kart? The series was always intended to be a family-friendly racing genre. F-Zero is the series to turn to if you want skill-over-fun gameplay.

The real issue is that "veteran players are on the same level as novices now" isn't true and thus the main complaint about Mario Kart Wii doesn't exist, even though a lot of reviewers want you to believe that it is this way now. In my opinion MK:Wii got docked points unjustified by a lot of reviews as the complaints were always very similar to the ones of Gametrailers.

But yes, there certainly is an elitist attitude. And anyone who plays Mario Kart has to expect to lose a race once in a while due to bad luck and not lack of skill, that's the nature of the franchise. But as I said, it's not like a veteran would have trouble to win the vast majority of races (if not all) against novices and average players.

That is the way of reviews. Fire Emblem lost a lot of points because it did not use the "wiimote unique features" (read waggle). Trauma Center got some 5`s and 6`s because it is too hard. It is kinda funny, those 2 games lost several points for being too hardcore on a "casual" console. Mario and Sonic got low reviews for not being a real game (read aimed at new demographics or non-core). And Mario Kart loses points for being some sort of perfect balance for core and casual gamers.

It is a lose-lose situation. It is like being the second player on a tic tac toe game, the better you can get is tie.

I didn't watch the video review, but I read all the posts here and I believe you guys over any reviewer. Why do they sling mud at the game with issues that don't exist? I don't care about the score, wasn't expecting a 9 anyways, but if they dwell on the negatives like you guys said they did, I find their normally straight opinion un-credible. Games that are good on the get beaten down the reviews like no other. Guess you must nitpick the 'best'. However, the criticisms can cause the gamers to not buy it at all since negatives are highlighted more than the positives. But since I DIDN'T see the video (Wii Internet) someone tell me different.
