The real issue is that "veteran players are on the same level as novices now" isn't true and thus the main complaint about Mario Kart Wii doesn't exist, even though a lot of reviewers want you to believe that it is this way now. In my opinion MK:Wii got docked points unjustified by a lot of reviews as the complaints were always very similar to the ones of Gametrailers. But yes, there certainly is an elitist attitude. And anyone who plays Mario Kart has to expect to lose a race once in a while due to bad luck and not lack of skill, that's the nature of the franchise. But as I said, it's not like a veteran would have trouble to win the vast majority of races (if not all) against novices and average players. |
That is the way of reviews. Fire Emblem lost a lot of points because it did not use the "wiimote unique features" (read waggle). Trauma Center got some 5`s and 6`s because it is too hard. It is kinda funny, those 2 games lost several points for being too hardcore on a "casual" console. Mario and Sonic got low reviews for not being a real game (read aimed at new demographics or non-core). And Mario Kart loses points for being some sort of perfect balance for core and casual gamers.
It is a lose-lose situation. It is like being the second player on a tic tac toe game, the better you can get is tie.
