"Are you playstationing?" - "Yes, I'm playstationing. I'm a playstationer."
Never heard or read such phrases.

Inadvertently you made me realise that i have to tweak the title.

For instance, in the south and east of Europe it is the synonym of gaming.

The console brand that come first to the mind of the average person is Playstation by far.

And as i aforesaid, it's the first contender for gaming Christmas gift.

Although, thankfully i have seen relatives here in Greece buying Nintendo switch 2 as present, despite its exorbitant price.

In the last 24 hours i see a barrage of articles in a variety of journalistic sites in my country about Nintendo Switch surpassing Ds to become Nintendo's best selling system ever and some even mention that is now chasing Ps2.
I insist on that it will beneficial for marketing purposes to achieve it.

Playstation is legend due to the huge game catalogue published on it the last 30 years.
It doesn't depend on Nintendo Switch Sales. Nintendo allready had Nintendo DS with sales similar of PS2.
Everyone knows that Nintendo dominates handheld market from Gameboy area (37 years)...

The new symbol already exists and has existed for a while, it's your phone.

No console or pc will take that place. If a kid asks his mom for a switch there's a big chance the mom won't know what a switch is but if the same kid asks his mom for her phone or tablet so he can play minecraft or whatever people play on mobile, she will know immediately what he's talking about.
That's the new landscape, that's why Nintendo and other big companies have released and are releasing mobile games.

I think Nintendo would be stupid to discontinue the Switch 1 during 2026 with the surging price of NAND and RAM.

4GB Ram+32GB/64GB NAND is much much much cheaper than 12GB Ram+256GB NAND... And considering how good the OLED panel is on the Switch OLED, I hope it keeps getting new games for the next year or two.

I hope Nintendo goes a route similar to Sega in the nineties did in that regard: When they brought a new console, they kept the predecessor around as budget option. Imagine Nintendo keeping the Switch around until 2030 for instance as a budget option for those who think the Switch 2 is too expensive and market it that way, it would easily beat the PS2. Especially if they keep selling them in emerging markets, where the Switch just beat the PS4 and is now just behind the PS2 in those countries - and having less disposable income should lend them well into selling the Switch opposed to PCs and PS5s right now with the exploding memory pricing.
