Forums - Gaming - 2026 OpenCritic League - Crimson Desert! [80OC]

I don't understand why a lot of people panicked about the Crimson Desert PS5/Series X situation, as though the Pro is a generational upgrade on every component.

Performance mode on Pro: 1080p PSSR'd to 4K + High RT settings.

Performance mode on PS5/Series X: Native 1080p (no 4x upscaling taking resources) + Low RT settings.

The workload on PS5/Series X being much lower should enable similar or better framerate than the equivalent (performance) mode on the Pro. And if it's somehow not enough, then reducing a couple more settings or disabling RT (like the Series S version) should do it. Some dudes thought that this may be another Cyberpunk 2077 situation without giving any logical explanations. Cyberpunk was designed around SSD's and shoehorned into ancient HDD's on outdated consoles. Even the Series S version should be A LOT more acceptable than Cyberpunk was on PS4/X1.

Heads Up! Crimson Desert embargo lifts @ 5pm CST today. This will certainly be among the most interesting review drops to come from this league. Make sure to have any last minute adjustments done before this time.

(My eyes and ears say this game will be a 93+ OC, but my gut is telling me to exercise a bit of cautious optimism. It’ll review well, but I’m sticking to 88OC.)

Final Crimson Desert adjustment: 90.

Believe.

[deleted.] I’ll wait a minute before posting anything… reviews are still coming in.

Sitting at 84?

93🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 88🤭🤭🤭🤭🫢

Well I'm glad I lowered CD some, just wish I had lowered it more. The gap between previews and reviews was rather large I must say, almost all of the previews were positive. I saw that IGN, who gave it a positive final preview after a 5 hour session just a few weeks ago, has it a 6/10 on their review-in-progress right now, brutal. The game must really fall apart after the opening hours.

My score is fucked!!!

Seems like it has crazy QoL, grinding, balance, and difficulty spike issues, what a shame. These Korean and Chinese devs often nail what I normally consider "the difficult part", and really screw up the small parts that I don't usually think much about because everyone else does them at least adequately well. I'll probably wait for a bunch of patches and a sale before jumping in.

Methinks we need to start trusting Shtinamin a little more. Not a single miss so far!

Also: It seems CD has leveled out around 80OC. I can only see this score dropping with time, however, being that reviewers were likely very specially hand-picked (as can be assumed judging by the apparent lack of any reviews on console). As it stands now, 80 is a solid score! Though ultimately I’ve come to learn after Stellar Blade, Echoes of Wisdom, and Metroid Prime 4 that these review scores mean squat: Play the game for yourself and reach your own conclusion. Don’t let a lower-than-expected score hamper your experience (…unless we’re talking like somewhere in the 60s).

I expected higher for Crimson Desert. I watched a few reviews and the criticisms just made me shrug. I think this is one I need to try and play for myself. Because i honestly like what I've seen/heard of it. This might be one of those games where i disagree with the critics.
