According to Chris Dring, PS5 sales in the UK during November were down 57% year on year:

Are VGChartz drastically overshooting PS5 sales in Europe? UK is the biggest PS market in Europe, if sales are down 57 % year on year there, how would it even be possible for PS5 to break European November sales record?

The date of this tracking does not include the vast majority of the period where the PS5 was heavily discounted. I believe it covers up to the 22nd of November and the PS5 was not discounted until the 21st of November.

The period where the PS5 was discounted by ~30% will be responsible for the vast majority of sales in November. Being up 16% YoY for BF week could be easily enough to undo all the damage of being down 57% for earlier in November.

But that 57 % down outside black friday, 16 % up during black friday at most would show a modest year on year increase in sales, or even pretty much stagnant sales. Hard to see how that yells with PS5 having a record month. No doubt PS5 sales in Europe crushed Switch 2 during November, but they didn't have a 2M+ record month in Europe.

You know PS5 had the all-time record last year, right? A 0.01% increase in sales for Europe compared to last year would still be record breaking lol.

But the numbers we have don't show a modest increase, 57 % down outside black friday and 16 % increase during black friday would point more towards some form of decline than even modest growth.

VgChartz estimated that PS5 sold 2M+ this November in Europe, what did they estimate PS5 sold last November in Europe? Does their estimates show a modest increase or even stagnant year on year November sales or a massive increase?

Last year 1,954,182. They currently have PS5 as selling 5.9% more this year than last year for the whole of Europe. The UK YoY decline for November (Up to the 22nd) is alarming. But without the rest of the countries, and most importantly most of the heavy discount period accounted for. I wouldn't jump to big conclusions. The UK is also responsible for less than 20% of EU sales for PlayStation.

At the end of the day if it is over tracked enough to drop below 1.96m then the record just returns to PS5 2024.

What the data shows clearly, is that without discounts all console sales will keep falling of a cliff the coming years, that means Sony and Nintendo will both be under enormous pressure to do regular price cuts to keep sales from falling off a cliff, which will radically kill their profit margins, but without the price cuts, the sales potential will be incredibly low, so constant price cuts may be the best option available. But it will mean that the solid profit margin days for Nintendo is gone, which will kill investor demand for stock in these companies.

I don't know how you can take a single months partial results and think that's enough to paint the entire industries console hardware future as hopeless but ok.

You have got to be kidding me. We got an update from Chris Dring. He provided WRONG data.

"Deleted previous post. My report had some double counting going on. In the UK for November, Nintendo console sales (Switch 2 + Switch 1) are up 41% year-on-year, PS5 console sales were down 29%, and Xbox sales were down 51%. Overall, console sales for November (pre-Black Friday) were down 17%."

Edit: Yes this means adjusting PS5 back up a bit in Europe. Though will still be down compared to what we had it at. Give me sometime with this.
