Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in Japan - June 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 Japan:

June 2025 is the 1st month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 0.99 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is now ahead of the Switch 1 by 0.99 million units.

The 1st month for the Switch 2 is June 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is March 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 1.55 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 0.56 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 35.86 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 34.31 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - June 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

June 2025 is the 56th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 33,634 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.60 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.33 million units.

The 56th month for the PS5 in Japan is June 2025, while for the PS4 it is September 2018. The PS5 has sold 6.92 million units, while the PS4 sold 7.26 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 8 million in month 61, 8.5 million in month 68, and 9 million in month 72. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.42 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

I'm admiring switch 2. I don't know if the momentum will carry them that far. If it does, other handhelds would gain a lot of interests and probably PS get PSP3. Nintendo does what the others don't.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - June 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

June 2025 is the 56th month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for in Japan. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 23,781 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 0.18 million units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 0.68 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.68 million units in 56 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 1.36 million units. Month 56 for the Xbox Series X|S is June 2025 and for the Xbox 360 is July 2010.

The Xbox 360 crossed 1.4 million units in month 59 and 1.5 million units in month 67. The Xbox 360 sold 1.66 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 0.98 million units behind lifetime Xbox 360 sales.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 US:

June 2025 is the 57th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 67,955 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 by 54,237 units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 1.45 million units.

The PS5 has sold 26.33 million units in 56 months, while the PS4 sold 24.88 million units. Month 56 for the PS5 is June 2025 and for the PS4 is June 2018.

The PS4 crossed 25 million in month 57 and 30 million in month 71. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 8.60 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

The 1st month for the Switch 2 is June 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is March 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 1.16 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 0.66 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 38.94 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 37.78 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

In the last 12 months, the PlayStation 5 has outsold the Nintendo Wii by 3.26 million units. The Nintendo Wii is ahead of the PlayStation 5 by 9.02 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 77.28 million units in 56 months, while the Nintendo Wii sold 86.30 million units. Month 56 for the PlayStation 5 is June 2025 and for the Nintendo Wii it is June 2011.

The Nintendo Wii crossed 90 million units sold worldwide in month 61 and 100 million in month 85. The Nintendo Wii sold 101.63 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 24.35 million units behind lifetime Wii sales.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006 in North America and Japan and in March 2007 in Europe. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

In the last 12 months, the PS5 has grown its lead over the PS3 by 4.44 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 25.16 million units.

The PlayStation 5 has sold 77.28 million units in 56 months, while the PlayStation 3 sold 52.12 million units. Month 56 for the PlayStation 5 is June 2025 and for the PlayStation 3 is June 2011.

The PlayStation 3 did not reach current PlayStation 5 sales until month 81 when it had sold 77.49 million units.

The PlayStation 3 crossed 60 million in month 62, 70 million in month 73, and 80 million in month 85. The PlayStation 3 sold 87.4 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 10.12 million units behind lifetime PS3 sales.
