Forums - Gaming - Do you expect the Wii to end up being THE JRPG console this gen?

I think the DS has already taken the place as the platform for JRPG games but the Wii should do pretty well. I think a lot will be decided by how Square Enix's big RPGs fare on the PS3. I don't think though that we'll see a system this generation that completely dominates JRPGs like the PS2 did.

compensate with what? the Wii has it's unique controls to make a difference, it's not like that because of decreasing the grapgics of the series on the Wii they will come up with a better story or character cast or battle system, if they have great ideas they will use them no matter on what console a game comes, so only the controls can make a difference, but I wonder if they can make it so fun somehow that it can compensate anything

Well yes that may be possible. You are forgetting it takes longer, more money, and more work to make a game for ps360 than the wii. This means they would be able to focus on alot of the other aspects than graphics. The controls if done right would add alot, if done wrong would decrease or stay the same. I'm pretty sure SE could compesate if they made it on the wii.

wanting FF14 on the Wii is like wanting MGS5 or GT6 on the Wii, and hoping somehow the Wii controls can make people forget the visual fall.. those games could be good though on the Wii of course, but besides the main series of FF, most other rpg series going to the Wii or also on the Wii would make a lot sense, but Square´s The Last Remnant isn´t coming to Wii though

DS > all. All the other consoles combined totally fail in comparison to the amount and quality of JRPGS on this system.

Not really, because those games were always on PS systems, and isn't GT6 first or second party. You also are forgetting how easy it was for square to switch to the PS from the Nintendo consoles. It seems to me that people are forgetting that the first 6 FFs were on a nintendo console, and think of them as a Sony exclusive forever.

when Square decided to make FF7 for the PSX they took a gamble ´cause Nintendo was the established leader of the industry, but still they choose for technology and the PlayStation, and switched production to the PSX while the SNES was the clear king of the industry and many had their money on the next Nintendo console or if not, on SEGA's console ..... but still they made it for the unproven PlayStation, because of it's hardware..

No. I actually think the 360 will be. MS is so desperate for Japans support (I honestly can't see why) they keep releasing quite good JRPGs, i.e. Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Tales of vesperia...

if either the PS3 or 360 are the main JRPG systems this gen, I'l be happy. I love good graphics with my RPGs.

However, if you mean handhelds included, its a tie between DS and PSP. For better or for worse, anyway.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Um, Ajax, the SNES was also at the end of its life cycle.  You make it sound like the SNES and PS were part of the same generation.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

no that's not what I mean of course

Are you kidding. The n64 was about 2-3 times more powerful than the ps1. The  reasons square switched was , because they wanted to use discs rather than carts for fmv and it sold more than the n64. Then they must have stayed with sony during the 6th gen , because of the ps2 selling like crazy. I really see nothing major like the change from cartridges to discs in the ps3. The discs in the wii are fine for sd graphics.  ANd if you see FF7 compared to alot of n64 games of the time you wouldn't think of it as high tech.
