when Square decided to make FF7 for the PSX they took a gamble ´cause Nintendo was the established leader of the industry, but still they choose for technology and the PlayStation, and switched production to the PSX while the SNES was the clear king of the industry..... so some developers actually like to work with high-tech stuff against all odds

Are you kidding. The n64 was about 2-3 times more powerful than the ps1. The  reasons square switched was , because they wanted to use discs rather than carts for fmv and it sold more than the n64. Then they must have stayed with sony during the 6th gen , because of the ps2 selling like crazy. I really see nothing major like the change from cartridges to discs in the ps3. The discs in the wii are fine for sd graphics.  ANd if you see FF7 compared to alot of n64 games of the time you wouldn't think of it as high tech.
