Forums - Gaming - Even if Switch sells more than PS2...

I feel a lot of PS2's library is stuck in one of the worst periods for pop culture. A lot of games reflected the awful era of G4 and Manswers, and Spike Game Awards. PS2 has a lot of great games that hold up even now. But overall, I would take the Switch over it. I don't think it will age badly culturally either. Like Saturn/PS1/Dreamcast/SNES/Genesis,TG16, it will always be as good as the time it was relevant. Switch is so stacked with exclusives and classic ports. Switch is the best console Nintendo ever made. I don't know what is the best ever but by this post alone I don't consider it to be the PS2.

Man, I don't know. I go back and forth all the time on this. They're 1a and 1b for me, but I always struggle with the order. The PS2 library had amazing depth and breadth, with very few genre gaps. And it featured the peak of Sony's first-party output. The Switch has comparatively meek third-party AAA support, but at a time when third-party AAA games are largely inferior. And it makes up for it, partially, with indie and Japanese AA games, some of which are console exclusive. Most importantly for Switch, it features many of the best titles Nintendo has ever crafted, not to mention all the enhanced WiiU ports.

I still don't know. Ask me again in another year

Much much better.

PS2 has SOCOM and SOCOM II - I rest my case.

Who cares?

I wasn’t a big fan of PS2… or any of the consoles released after Dreamcast and before the DS. Because I was in University doing an undergraduate/Bachelor degree during those years.

I enjoyed Final Fantasy X, but I can play that on Switch as well. It has the Xenosaga games on it, but they really messed up both the development and release on those (only a few countries got all three games without needing to import, and the games lacked cohesion despite being direct sequels), and there were the GTA games which I liked, and ShadowHearts (sequel to Koudelka on PSX).

So, I likely enjoyed Switch more from about day 1, playing Breath of the Wild.
PSX is one of my top tier consoles, though: I’d say along with Wii, DS, Switch, and maybe/probably SNES → if we’re talking the Japanese version.

Switch will never surpass the Ps2 in sales, because everytime the Switch be close to surpass the PS2 Sony will announce more numbers of all planets in the solar system, one by one, like Mars sold 5M units, Jupiter 3M, Saturn 2M, etc.

If we go by games libraries, the Switch has surpassed the PS2 long ago. Most of my favorite PS2 games are available on Switch (FFX, Devil May Cry 1 & 3, Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3) and then you add all the amazing Switch games, it's not even a contest.

Signature goes here!

Not to me, ill tell you that much. I havent been very big on the Switch. Havent touched mine in a couple of months.
So if Switch2 carries on from Switch1 then sure, itd probably be very succesfull, but even if it outsells the PS2 it wouldnt matter to me.

So that seals it. Switch wins.

The console selling the most units only determines precisely this : the top selling console. Being the best is a completely different topic.
