Forums - Gaming - A funny gaming-related story from my childhood

That happened back in 2006.

I was 14 years old, when my only gaming material was my SNES, and a NES Clone. I didn't had a PC, or internet. I also played the Playstation, the Playstation 2, the Mega Drive and the Master System. I also knew the Nintendo 64 and the Atari 2600 existed, but never played them.

So, it was a beautiful day at school. My class was going to a trip to another city (not very far from my home, only one town away). There they had a school where they were holding a exhibition about technology. Man, I love technology. I was very excited for this trip.

We arrived. I get out of the bus with my friends. We decide to explore the room with the computers. Everything was brand new for me, since, like I said, I had no PC or internet back in 2006.

We spend some time messing with Google Earth. I found it quite a lot of fun, but I wanted to explore more for myself. I left my friends and begin wandering the other rooms.

Then... I found it! A room with video-games!

Man, that was amazing! But the best part: I found out a PC with a Super Nintendo emulator. I didn't even knew you could play SNES games on PC! Man, my first thought was "I need a PC!"

A guy went to the PC and began playing Super Mario RPG. "What?! A Mario game I never heard of?" - I thought. I watched for a few minutes when another guy went to the PC and booted up Kirby Super Stars.

I knew about Kirby, one of my friends had a PS1 disc with some NES ROMS. At that time I thought Kirby Adventure was an official Playstation game.

Who cares?

Then, he went: "Oh, my God!! Kirby!! I love it!! If only I knew the controllers... Let's see..."

He played for a bit, then he looked at me and said "Wanna play?"

I sat down in the chair and looked for games. I booted up Super Street Fighter II and tried to play, but the game was too fast, maybe some settings were wrong with the ZSNES...?

After a bit, one of my friends appeared.

- Hey!! There you are, Alexandre!

- Huh?

- I was looking for you! You disappeared.

- Oh, sorry...

- Everyone were looking for you! We are going back to our school!

- What?! For how long were you looking for me?

- About half an hour! People were desperate already!

Man... The Super Nintendo...

Then, embarrased, I went back to the bus. As soon as I stepped inside, the other kids applauded.

And, to make things worse, the professor said:

- Whew, guys... Alexandre gave us quite a scare, huh? Let's go back!

That was one of the most embarrasing moments in my childhood... But also one of the best, since I found out you could play your loved SNES games on a PC.

Then, in 2007, I got a computer... About that story... Well, I never missed a bus again...
