I mean, there's something to be said for "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

The innovations of the Wii, DS, and Switch were driven by a need to expand a shrinking player base; there was no need for them to reinvent the wheel for Switch 2 because they already had a massive audience that loved the Switch and wanted more of the same but updated to modern standards.

There's less incentive to take a big risk if your current strategy is still working.

I understand all that. And if people want to play the same thing for fourteen years, and they somehow get enjoyment out of it, then good for them. They've just walked into heaven on earth. But I get bored doing the game thing after a few years, so I'm less than thrilled with the state of the industry. This is why I was so let down by the Switch 2. With graphics stalling to the point where regular people can't even tell the difference between gens anymore, I needed Nintendo to do something like the Wii in order to get me interested. They didn't have to go with motion controls, just come up with something fresh and new, some way for me to play a game in a way that I hadn't before. After all, wasn't that why Wii was so fun? Like the Switch 2, it had the same graphical capabilities as the console that came before it, only unlike the Switch 2, it managed to redefine the way we played games, and as a result, it felt fresh and exhilarating. Hell, when I bust out the Wii now and play it with friends and family, I'm still going wow... this is fun! I wanted that from them again. Same with Sony. Same with Microsoft. Well, none of them are doing anything even remotely like that. So here I am, stuck rotating retro consoles in and out 'til the end of time. Which is fine. I mean, there are enough legendary games out there for various systems to keep me happy until I'm dead. But I hate it. I use to be a part of what was happening. Now, I'm not. It sucks.

Switch 2 does not have the "same graphical capabilities as the console that came before it" though, it's a substantial technical leap over Switch 1.

Sony has totally dropped the ball this gen and I don't know if I'll get the ps6 with (almost) all their games coming to pc and how poor this gen has been. 3/10 tops.

Yes, they've dropped the ball so badly that their previously main competitor is now porting all it's games to it's console. What a catastrophe for Sony

Nintendo are porting games to Sony now?

EDIT: Also since when is what the competition doing relevant to how another company is dropping the ball? This has EASILY been the worst generation Sony have done and I don't think that anybody can say otherwise, by their own standards they've dropped the ball massively.

It's because if you have any competition that's potentially removing sales from you, you need to defeat them first before you can maximise your success. Your saying they've dropped the ball when they've practically knocked out one of their main competitors. That's absurd. Nintendo is technically a competitor but they are not in the high end powerful console market like Sony is. If you want a powerful console you need to buy a Sony console now. Previously you could have bought an XBSX but with all the price rises and terrible news around Xbox I don't see that happening anymore

Lots of gamers can and will say otherwise. Don't be delusional.

The PS5 has a lot going for it, and most console gamers couldn't care less that its first party games are coming to PC years later, or that 98%~ of its 3rd party games are multiplatform.

PS5 has decent specs for its pricetag (unprecedented at launch), full and enhanced backwards compatibility with PS4, can play over a 100 classic games from PS1,2, and PSP (not counting ports and streaming). And the majority of its timed exclusive players will still buy them rather than wait for the late port on other systems. PSVR2 has some incredible exclusive experiences in RE7, RE4, GT7 for those interested as well.

At least dozens of millions of console gamers don't touch PC. For this segment, it's literally irrelevant that PC is getting Playstation games. You need to understand that different gamers have different priorities, and that PC being digital only is a deal breaker to some.

Yes, PC support is probably doing some damage to the brand that might snowball into disaster if Sony doesn't adjust, but so far it's not really terrible at all. Playstation is more successful than ever. If it's "objectively and easily the worst", that would not have been the case lol.

Been (lurking) on VGChartz for 18 years. Active poster for 1.5 years. I have never made a thread solely dedicated to any Sony consoles unlike many users here making threads solely dedicated to Xbox or Nintendo consoles.

Just because you don't like what I have to say doesn't mean I'm a rage baiting Sony fan. The same goes for Imaginelvldvl or whatever his name is, who I know you don't like either.

MS is porting games to Sony now while Nintendo has bowed out of the console race and is focusing on the handheld experience.

I don't count the dock as a console and have only played Mario and Zelda on Switch, since those are simply must plays and good no matter what you play it on. Other than that I have stopped buying Switch games years ago since my kids also don't play on Switch anymore. Until the next Zelda or main line Mario comes out, no Switch 2 for me either.

I did buy a Series X on which I have only really played Forza 7 :/ It was a total waste of money, the Halo edition Series X is just an ornament that occasionally gets used for 4K blu-rays. I played Halo Infinite, FH 4 and 5, Psychonauts 2 all on PC, no need for XBox.

All my game time now is used up by PSVR2 with over a dozen games lined up in my backlog and more I will buy day one. So no clue how Sony has dropped the ball when I can't even keep up with the PSVR2 releases.

My oldest plays daily on the PS5 with his friends, they seem to enjoy it lots as well. My youngest is getting interested in VR (playing Arizona Sunshine 2 on PSVR2) He had the Series X in his room for a while, tried Sunset Overdrive, but rather plays on PC with his friends.

My wife plays games on her phone, but we play co-op on PS5 when we find a game we both enjoy. Last was PoE2. We'll likely try Diablo 4 next as it was just added to PS+ and maybe King of Fighters XV (also just added) will be good for a couple laughs together. That and DS2 is on my to play list for when it gets darker earlier again. (And have more time to fully enjoy it)

So from PC, Nintendo, Sony and XBox earlier to PC (Steam, Roblox) and Sony nowadays for regular game play.

I've been seeing a lot of articles and videos claiming that the PSVR2 is dying/dead, so now I'm not sure what to believe with how it's doing for Sony. It's such a great bit of tech that I'm not surprised you really like yours. I have a PSVR 1 and Wipeout Omega collection is incredible on it. The change in visual perception actually makes the racing challenges easier to complete which I thought was impressive. People call it a gimmick but it clearly isn't if it's the only way I can complete the hardest challenges in the game.

The main complaint I hear for PSVR2 is the lack of big games but you're saying you got a dozen in your backlog + ones in future you'll get day one? Any "big " ones in there or are they all smaller titles? Name a a few maybe?
