Yeah, that’s not too shocking lol. That is incredible! Curious to see the legs of this system. DKBananza is right around the corner, so I feel confident in saying momentum will remain strong at least through the end of July.

That much already!? Nintendo really did give a good supply of consoles for launch!

The hype for Splatoon Raiders in Japan is tremendous (you will understand what I said if you see japanese peoples on Twitter/X ), and the Switch 2 version of Splatoon 3 raised the hype too and will help with the legs.

SteamMyAnimeList and Twitter - PSN: Gustavo_Valim - Switch FC: 6390-8693-0129 (=^・ω・^=)

Weeks to reach over 3.5 million sold, according to VGChartz estimates:

  1. Switch 2 - 1 week
  2. PS5 - 6 weeks
  3. PS4 - 6 weeks
  4. Switch 1 - 13 weeks
  5. Xbox One - 14 weeks
  6. Xbox Series - 15 weeks

Should be noted the PS5 and PS4 had a staggered launch.

Not just fastest selling Nintendo system. Fastest selling console ever right? And it did it outside of the holiday window too.

According to VGChartz estimates, yes easily the biggest launch. Took the PS5 and PS4 6 weeks to top 3.5 million.

nah it was everyone on the internet. And it is overpriced, that's objective. But just because millions of people are upset about the price that doesn't mean there aren't millions of other people ready to pick it up day 1. Also I'm sure there are plenty people who are not happy about the price but picked it up anyway. Being overpriced and having a huge launch are not mutually exclusive. The real question is are sales still booming later on in it's lifecycle. The launch was always gonna be ridiculous because so many people were waiting for it.

All three of the systems that were successors to 150+ million selling systems have been overpriced cuz the companies got greedy after such dominant successes, but of the three S2 is probably the least overpriced and also the most desirable, and also it's coming out mid-gen against the consoles so that helps since it's the only new thing around for years before and after.

Anyway, the fact that it absolutely demolished every previous system launch is awesome, and even more crazy is that it did that despite being overpriced and pretty much everyone being pissed off about the greedy pricing! Clearly there was a lot of pent up demand for next gen Nintendo after 8 years of arguably the most popular system ever.

NSW2 hardware is not overpriced; it’s the software and accessories. ($80 for TotK and MKWorld is criminal.) With the power it outputs as a handheld and home console, it more than justifies its $450 price tag (which sits lower than the competition).
