The first post reminds me of the Typing Chronicles games etc. where, as far as I know, you attack etc. by writing words. I have yet to play them, but I always found the idea intriguing.

Reminds me of two things:

The first one of course is the Typing of the Dead series, where you had to type several words to entire phrases without typo to kill the Zombies mutants.

The other one is Word Realms, a small game from the creators of Kingdom of Loathing I supported on Kickstarter ages ago. It's an RPG with one-on-one battles where you attack with a witty retort. What that retort is (and how much damage you do) depends on the word you write with the letters you got, Scrabble style!

Aha, I knew there was some older game (series) using the same idea, but I forgot to mention that! I think it was indeed Typing of the Dead.

Around the Network

For years I've dreamed of a game where you play as a ranger protecting and rehabilitating your forest. When invaders seek to exploit its resources you drive them out. When animals go feral you tame them. When damage is done you do what you can to heal it.

The main innovation would be the approach to 'combat'. Killing and direct violence is penalized or not even possible depending on the circumstances. You tame feral beasts by dodging their attacks, tiring them out, and calming them down, not by hurting them. That sort of thing.
