yes.

a sony "steamdeck" sounds good to me. i have no need or desire for any exclusives. i just want to be able to play (a majority of) my games on business trips or holidays at the in-laws. today i use remote play (at the in-laws) but that is a degraded mobile experience. i prefer this route to nintendo's switch approach. not that i can't see why someone would like a single device that works portable and on the TV. ...but i have enough money to prefer having 2 devices so that my TV experience isn't degraded to that of a mobile experience.

Yes I'm aware it can hook up to the TV my steam deck could too.  Doesn't look as good for third parties as the PS5 and doesn't have as stable of performance.  If I'm not using the mobility I don't care about the mobile system projecting on a TV

To limit yourself like this. Kinda sad. You're loss on a lot of great stuff.

Whatever I tried most of their games and had some on WiiU like Mario Kart.  Didn't really appeal to me.  Certainly not good for third party stuff and I ain't riding the bus or whatever so would only play at home.

I am Iron Man

I'm not buying a handheld that isn't Nintendo's unless it "replaces" the home Playstation or PC, which is not going to happen anytime soon if ever. Portability is a non-factor to me, so you're going to have to "force" me to buy one through a ton of compelling exclusives.

That said, I predicted Sony to launch two versions of PS6, with the weaker one being a console equivalent to the SteamDeck, and a new rumour is suggesting exactly that. Since SteamDeck sales figures became known though, I'm not confident that a handheld PS6 will compare to even Vita's sales. It'll be very expensive and might not support some of the more demanding PS6 games later in the generation or after the PS7 is launched.

Since generational graphics jumps aren't all that noticeable, and the best looking games keep taking longer and costing more to develop, at some point Sony and game developers will have to stop targeting high specs. It's all just "too much for too little". So hybrids (at least in the style of SteamDeck) make sense here. The lowest common denominator should gradually go lower and lower, unless game engines provide a paradigm shift that requires beefy hardware.

Nah, portable gaming is just sub par. I want a big screen and the comfort and privacy of my own couch to immerse myself in these worlds.

My switch and to a larger degree my smartphone matches more than enough my portable gaming needs.

Maybe. The problem with portable gaming to me is I just don't have enough time to actually ever use it. When I leave my house I'm leaving to go do things and interact with people and wont ever be able to use it. During work at lunch I could use it but I go to the gym 4 days a week so I get one day a week to use at best for 1 hour. I could also just stream to my work PC which would be way more affordable.

One thing I did notice when I had a steamdeck is that playing smaller indie games like Ori, Ender lillies, etc. all felt much better to me on a portable device. I beat Ender lillies just sitting on my couch with the deck. Problem is I rarely play indie games like that.
