Forums - Nintendo - Can Nintendo turn Switch 2's pricing disaster around? And how?

People that care about frame rates will buy a device that prioritizes frame rates.

Edit: Most people that buy a Switch 2 will not be purchasing it to play Cyberpunk, that's a bonus.

Yeah. I know someone IRL that bought one and really likes it, and they thought it's price was fine. SC94597 is right, for 9W it's really not bad performance overall on CP2077. What happens though if Steam for example, decides to go super aggressive and launch a steam deck lite for 300$ that performs better than this? It's no impossible as this is a really competitive industry.

Edit: why do i/you have to hover over this post with a mouse to see the full text?

What if Xbox launches a $300.00 series super s more powerful than PS5? While we're at it, what if pigs fly out my butt. I guess we'll never know.

Shall we also write pretty useless "not impossible but highly improbable what-if" questions?

Steamdeck has been massively successful. You think it's that unlikely for one of the manufacturers of these portables to get super aggressive and undercut switch 2 by a lot? I think it's doable.

"massively successful" it sold less than the Wii U lmao.

It's a niche product for enthusiasts.

Massively successful by what metric?

I’m not sure how accurate this is but the latest estimate is that Steam Deck has sold roughly 4 million in 3 years.

Keep in mind:
1) It's not subsidized. Every unit is profitable and a high price.
2) Has competition from the Legion Go, MSI Claw and Rog Ally which all run the same games library.
3) Has zero advertising.
4) Didn't get released in some regions until YEARS after it's original debut. (I.E. 2 years for Australia).

I think it's done better than expected all told.

Yeah, but it wasn't a threat to Switch 1 sales and it won't be a threat to Switch 2 sales.

Worst case scenario for Nintendo is ~10 million less hardware sales due to PC handhelds.

The Steam Deck was clearly the better deal for over 3 years compared to the Switch 1.

And currently the Steam Deck is still the better deal compared to the Switch 2... over 99.9% of the shared library (multiplatform games, that are also available as PC version and as Switch version) run better on the Steam Deck. Because a PC handheld ain't dependant on nextgen patches which unlock higher settings to use the full performance of a new device.

But most handheld gamers doesn't seem to want a PC handheld, they want a Nintendo handheld.
