Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Metroid Prime 4 Treehouse gameplay

A longer look at the long-awaited game in action, from the Treehouse:

Can't wait to get my hands on this one, after like 8 years it's finally almost here.

On Switch 2, Nintendo says the game will run at either 4K/60fps, or 1080p/120fps in performance mode.

It also support mouse aiming with the new Joycon.

Weren't you only planning to play this on current Switch? This is Switch 2 Edition footage.

Yeah I plan to play on Switch 1, and I'm aware this is Switch 2 footage; the only big difference though seems to be resolution/framerate (with it being 900p/60fps on Switch 1 and either 4K/60fps or 1080o/120fps on Switch 2) and the addition of mouse controls.

Don't wanna wear out my Switch 2 playing Switch 1 games, and I find it more interesting as an end-of-life Switch 1 showcase than an up-res'd Switch 2 port.

I'm not sure you comprehend how big a jump 900p to 4k is, or 60fps to 120fps with better resolution (albeit you need a tv that supports this).

Can't say I know many people that would buy a new system just to let it gather dust while they play far inferior versions on the older system. But that's your perogative.

Lighting, shadows, reflections and textures all look like a big boost in the comparisons I've seen.

I know what 900p and 4K look like, I have a PS5 as well as a Switch. Not even sure if my TV supports 120fps to be honest.

I'm an unusual person, how graphics work is one of my interests and I'm more fascinated seeing what can be squeezed out of my venerable old Switch before I retire it than just seeing a somewhat basic port to hardware that can do so much more.

I've been awaiting it since 2017 so getting it on the console I was promised it for way back then just feels "right". From a sentimental perspective, I also wanna send off my Switch on a positive note, and I can't think of a better swan song.

I won't argue with your personal sentiments, that's fine. But your statement about it being a basic port is just wrong. It's probably the best use of the hardware we've seen so far. It's the only game they've showcased which offers modes of full 4k/60 and 120fps performance at full HD. It's very impressive and deserves to be acknowledged.

Also if your tv supported 120hz you would probably know. It's not the most common tv feature.

The actual assets don't seem to have changed much, so to my mind a res and fps bump still constitutes a fairly straight port. Of course, I acknowledge that supporting 120fps and 4K is commendable though, and the addition of mouse-con aiming is great to see.

At any rate, the game itself looks really good so far, to me at least. It's very much "more Prime" but after an 18 year absence that's fine by me.

The most underrated announcement in that direct.

Nintendo should have made it the centre of attention. The Prime franchise needs to grow.

Nah, that's Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion. First was a blast, and waited 6 years for a sequel.  So little of cool games like that in gaming now. I love Metroid but MP4 has had a lot of attention.  Dread is the best selling Metroid of all time and on Switch Prime 4 will do very well. Let alone Switch 2 bonus sales.
