Not bad numbers for PS5 this week. I was expecting around 40,000 so I think 50,000+ is a good result. Though I still think that by the end of March, console sales will be back to what they were pre-Wilds, but we'll see.

For the PS5 that's expected but for the Switch what do you think is gonna cause this recent sales trend to stop and even reverse somewhat?

No chance that the decline can be stopped, remember this is happening BEFORE the big Switch 2 direct in April, which will be the start of mass marketing for Switch 2. I think after the direct the Switch will probably struggle to sell over 20K a week until the launch of Switch 2, also because they will have no software releases that could lead to increased sales for Switch.

Yep. A ton of people still won't know that the Switch 2 is even a thing yet let alone that it's releasing this year and potentially in just 2-3 months. While more people will be learning about that every day it'll accelerate big time starting April 2nd. In the next few months a potential final Switch model could give a boost but that'll basically be it for the Switch other than the holiday season this year being the last one that'll do anything of note for it.

I was referring more specifically to PS5 here but I guess that Xenoblade's release could cause the Switch to hover around 40k for a week or so.  I fully expect the Switch to continue its decline thereafter.

What's "lights out" for you? Discontinuation? I say NO! Bet?

Does anyone think monster hunter worlds will come to the switch 2?

Doubt it the is more chance of a Wilds port tbh and I doubt that as well as Capcom will likely do what they did with Rise and create one specifically for it, to clarify why this is Rise was structured differently to World and was instead more of a modern take on the Freedom/Portable games than a continuation of what World brought even though it took some cues from it this is because portable wise the structure of Rise and the Freedom games is far more suited for on the go gaming where although you can have long play sessions you can also do hunts here and there then go on with your day while Worlds and Wilds are more long session games.

Ah ok that makes sense. Based on what you said a few weeks ago I thought you were expecting Switch sales to return to that as a baseline by the end of the month but I guess that was just an incorrect interpretation.

No, you're right, I remember that post.  My Switch numbers were too high for a baseline.  It was more to illustrate the state of the two consoles in the region:  That after the Monster Hunter effect has come and gone for PS5, just a smaller release on Switch (Xenoblade) would be enough to put console sales back to how they were.  And it might for a couple of weeks, but Switch will naturally decline afterwards.

Switch 40k again next week, fingers crossed
