Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Where does 3D Mario go next?

Really I'd rather a new 3D Donkey Kong after all these years, but a new 3D Mario will no doubt be a better seller so it would have to be a Switch 2 launch title.

I'd rather have Super Mario Bros. 4... in the style of 8-bit.

And beyond?

I hope for Galaxy 1+2 HD like 2 years after the new Mario. I still haven't played galaxy 2 since it wasn't in the 35th collection...

We will finally get Mario in Kingdom Hearts

Technically, there was a Super Mario 64 part 2. But the game was in development well beyond the N64, so it was rebranded as Super Mario Galaxy.

The game I hope for is Super Mario Galaxy 3. The first two are my favourite 3D platformers of all time.

They are my favorite as well. That is peak 3D Mario to me.

I do however find it unlikely that they will do such a thing. The only time they revisited the same concept in a 3D Mario game was with Mario Galaxy 2. They are masters at the craft and I think what they will cook no matter what.

I really enjoyed Bowser's Fury so I'd be happy with an expansion of that concept.

Signature goes here!

I’m worried they’ll try to go bowsers fury direction and make an “open world” Mario. I just don’t want that from this franchise. Not everything has to be open world, and I think true Mario will get lost in that. But it definitely shouldn’t be Odyssey 2. They didn’t wait nearly a decade just to put out another Odyssey. That would be the most disappointing to me since they could’ve/should’ve done that 5 years ago on Switch if that’s all it is.
