There are 9 Legend of Zelda games in the top 40. What the heck? ( mean, it it an amazing series but that's absurd!)

IT's almost like Nintendo is VERY good at this

Interesting results. Glad to see Astro-bot made it's debut at 63 for it's first year on the list. I expected higher for Baldur's gate 3 but i guess not enough people here played it. Ocarina of time going back to 1 is interesting. Maybe opinions on Zelda games are shifting a bit. My personal number 1 Elden Ring is lookin pretty good at 14.

I hope this event can continue in the future it's one of my favorite things about this site. Thanks mZuzek for hosting this for all these years.

Thanks for all your efforts with these events over the years, @mZuzek! It sure looks like a lot of work, but they're fun to read.

Looks like we're shaking it up this year with Nintendo titles composing what for VGC is an unusually small six out of the to top ten games this time around. I'm glad to see Chrono Trigger and The Last of Us cracking the top ten this time around, look at that! Looks like we had fewer people participating this year in general, so maybe my adding Chrono Trigger, and at a good rank, this year helped a little.

Also did some counting;

  • Number of games of my list in Top 100: 15
  • Number of games of my list in Top 50: 13
  • Number of games of my list in Top 10: 6

My list appears to be quite front heavy, with quite a few games being high up in the list. For example the '15' number for number of games in the Top 100, includes the '13' that made it to the Top 50. So, only 2 games were in spots 51 to 100.

  • Number of games from my list's Top 10 in overal Top 100: 6

Half of these are also games that are in the overal Top 10 (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild).

  • Number of games unique to my list: 23
    • Blast Corps
    • Star Wars: Dark Forces
    • Dynamite Cop!
    • Empire: Total War
    • Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
    • Star Wars Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire
    • Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
    • Crazy Taxi
    • SimCity 3000
    • Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
    • Resident Evil: Revelations
    • SimTower: The Vertical Empire
    • Motocross Madness
    • Total War: Rome II
    • Call of Duty
    • Prince of Persia (1989)
    • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
    • Kula World (Rollaway)
    • The Operative: No One Lives Forever
    • Astérix (Asterix: The Gallic War)
    • MediEvil
    • Anno 1602 (1602 A.D.)
    • RollerCoaster Tycoon 2

So, almost half my list consisted of unique games! Quite a bunch. Though some are niche games, some are also pretty well known. I mean, things like the original Prince of Persia or MediEvil deserve more votes if you asked me. I’m also the sole voter on four Star Wars games. In conclusion, I guess you can say my list has either unique games on it, or at the top the ones that are super popular.

EDIT: Had major brainfart about the Top 10 yesterday apparently.

I think the same is true of probably half my list too. It's half my top 10 for sure. I guarantee you nobody else included Butterfly Soup 1 and 2, Gone Home, Perfect Tides, or Misericorde anywhere on their lists. What can I say, I like my favorite coming-of-age visual novels and point-and-clicks. Probably the only person to include Undertale in their top 10 as well.

Not surprised by Ocarina of Time taking first place for the first time since 2015?

I mean, it is one of a handful of games I'd expect to be at the top so yeah. Makes sense!

Yeah if you’re really into a genre you can really dive into it and you can stumble upon some niche or even obscure stuff. I for one only know about those games you mentioned’s existence because you include them in these Top 50 lists. Similarly a lot of the construction management games (the ‘city-builders’ and such) in my list haven’t been voted for by anyone else, and then I didn’t even include anything that’s really unknown. Except maybe the Asterix game.

Didn't think BOTW would be beaten not only by one but two games, I wonder if it would've got the #1 again if more people had participated.

Anyway, thanks for the great effort you put into this event @mZuzek

Thanks for putting this together once again this year!
