First order of business: Merry Christmas!

Portal's last big update was the allowing of Cloud Streaming without the need of an actual PS5. Two questions:

1. For games that I own; can they also be streamed without needing to turn the PS5 on?

2. What other big features can we expect in the future in regards to making Portal a more desirable product? I have not looked into streaming consoles at all so I have no idea what other streaming consoles may be doing that SONY is not and we'd of course, want them to get caught up on. 

You are going to need to turn on your PS5 in order to play the games you own.

If you want to play something without a PS5 on the PS Portal, you will need to subscribe to Playstation Plus Premium (Extra and Essential do not support this) but again you are limited to what Playstation Plus offers.

Can you surf the web with the Portal? In other words, can you access this site with it?

So, why doesn't Sony develop a browser for the Portal so you can surf the WWW ?

What are they waiting for? Don't they want to sell this thing? I would never buy it if it doesn't let you surf.

Also, its got a big 8" screen, bigger than the typical smart phone, so browsing the web would be a good fit.

I hate using my smart phone to access the web.

Internet browser is something that can be added waaaay later. What Portal really needs is the ability to play games that we own without the need of the PS5. It needed that more than Catalogue thing which, currently, is dreadfully small. Very stylish device that is currently limited in what it can do. 

Yeah..they arent gonna do that because people would instead buy the Portal over the PS5 or PS5 Pro.

Besides the games would have to be optimized to run on the Portal which as far as I can see is impossible because everything is streamed.

Also it only has 6 GB internal storage and you cannot expand that or use an external memory device.

So in other words, you wouldnt be able to download any of the games to begin with.

The PS Portal is basically a glorified streaming device that only streams PS5 games mainly until they released a patch to stream PS Classic titles.

What? I am not saying actually DL the data to the console, but to allow you to Steam games you bought. I believe that Visions of Mana has that option after you buy it; You can DL the game or just stream it. 

If Portal could DL whole games I doubt SONY would be concerned with users picking Portal over PS5. The whole entire marketing around VITA was console games on the go. I seem to remember tons of games having PS4 and Vita options. 

As far as I know, there's no way to stream games without the source (PS5).

The issue here is it's not just a PS decision. You have to get permission from the publisher in order to have the right to stream the game also. As clouding gaming becomes more and more popular with both PS and Xbox pursuing it you are going to see more and more publishersdevs requesting more money from MSPS in order to give those rights away.

This is the issue Xbox is facing right now with their own cloud gaming and why their promise to allow you stream all the games you owned was a foolish one to make. They knew they needed permission from the devspublishers to do that and I guess they just assumed everyone would give it to them no questions asked. Now you have Sega thinking of entering the subcloud streaming market as well so they'll be less incentivized to sell those rights to anyone.

It's also one of the pitfalls of MS moving to PC with a console like interface. MS does not have the rights to just move everyone's game over becuase technically they would have to give everyone PC licenses for all the games they own and MS needs permission to do that. This is why I have doubt about their PC/Hybrid console rumors I feel like the licensing situation would be hell for them.
