For decades I wanted to build a home cinema in a separate room than my gaming / TV room.

Last summer two additional rooms in our house got available and I started planning. In November we began working on it and on time for the Christmas holidays we were able to watch the first movies in my new home cinema.

The last weeks I added some more furniture and curtains in the two adjoining rooms and now that project is almost finished. I only have to hang up the curtains tbetween the two rooms.

Here are some photos of the main room, clockwise starting from northeast direction:

Here are some photos from the adjoining room, where we can eat our meals before the movie. There is also a cupboard with my UHD and Blu-ray 3D movies (the projector supports both 4K and stereoscopic 3D) and additional seats.

The normal setup for the home cinema room is a sofa and two very comfy massage chairs. For bigger group I can grab the light armchairs from the adjoining room and add them in the main room:

The home cinema is also ready for gaming.

My old Xbox One X is already connected (but mainly as media player, which supports DVDs, Blu-rays, 3D-Blu-Rays, UHDs and most popular streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, AppleTV+, Paramount+ and WOW).

Maybe in the future I'll add a PS5 Pro or the next Xbox for gaming on the big screen... the AV receiver still has a lot of unused HDMI ports.

Looks great! What projector are you using?

Okay, here are the tech specs:

  • projection screen: celexon Expert PureWhite frame canvas; 135" diagonal (118'' x 66'')... or metric: 344 cm diagonal (300 cm x 169 cm),
  • projector: Epson EH-TW9400 (3LCD Technology, RGB liquid crystal shutter, 2.600 Lumen, 2D-mode = 240 Hz, 3D-mode = 480 Hz)
  • AV-Receiver: Denon AVR-X2800H DAB (supports 7.1 output or different 5.1.2 outputs; I chose the 5.1.2 setup best suited for Dolby Atmos)
  • speakers: Teufel Ultima 40 surround set (2 big front speakers, 2 surround satellites, 1 center speaker, 1 big subwoofer, 2 reflect speakers)
  • media player: my old Xbox One X (it support all popular streaming apps, UHD movies and Blu-ray 3D movies)
  • dedicated UHD / Blu-ray 3D player: Panasonic DP-UB424EGK (DVD, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, UHD)
  • multifunction remote control: my old "Harmony One" including its hub for a great redirection of infrared signals

And here are the rooms a few weeks ago:
