According to report from Shacknews, three senior staffers at Metroid Prime series developer Retro Studios have left, described as being "escorted off the premises last Friday." Specifics weren't provided, but Shacknews theorizes that the move could indicate that the trio, which includes Metroid Prime 3 Corruption director Mark Pacini, is planning to set up shop outside the confines of Retro.

Pacini was quoted last summer that the Retro Studios team would be taking a break from all things Metroid, but may not have had any idea how permanent it would be for some. There have been no announcements about the Nintendo-owned, Austin-based studio's next project, but wherever the recently departed wind up maybe they'll get to put some guns on some cars.

This is bad news. Nintendo don't have enough Western based developers. Falling out with Retro would be a big loss.

No falling out just people quitting to make new studio. You should read the whole article at the site. It also says nintendo definitely keeping retro and allowing to continue current project which no one knows nothing about.

Lots of guys who work at a developing studio that has seen success with a title or series usually leave to go create their own studio. Hell if MS hadn't had let Bungie go, you'd have probably seen a lot of them left. Just the nature of the beast. "Good" devs want independency to do what they want so its not that surprising. I think the story surrounding how they left is a bunch of media bullshit but I think it explains what's going on.

I'm pretty bummed about this. Retro will never be the same. The 3 senior staffers will probably form a new development studio and will make titles for PS360.

Damn Nintendo. You make the best games in the world but you're not very good with people, that's for sure.

well if they make their own dev team and keep their games as good as the 3D metroid games then yay for us! Its good when awesome dev teams have little babies like this lol hopefully they will stay close to nintendo though and that their walking out didnt happen because they were fed up with the company

Whatever - how much have Retro done for the Wii, and Ninty's success to date? Basically zero.

Waiting for something more significant from them...

God I hope that is Kid Icarus, and if it is I really hope it won't suffer from the loss of these "top" developers (I use quotes because I have no idea and really no interest in the hierarchial makeup of Retro to be perfectly honest)



Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.
